CalSO questions

I'm going to the June 12/13th CalSO (this monday), and I have a few questions:

1) When does it start?
2) Where do we sleep? Do they assign it there?
3) What kind of stuff should we bring?

Thanks

1) 730-9am
2) Unit 3, assigned on the spot
3) Toiletries and spare clothing are all you really need.

"Toiletries and spare clothing are all you really need."

Can you keep this stuff in the dorms until you leave to catch your flight at around 6-7 or is there a specified checkout time?

"1) 730-9am"

Anytime in between than?

Try to keep everything within a backpack - it's definitely managable. The itinerary is absolutely packed, and the only time you're really at the dorms is at night and early morning.

This is what I plan on taking (all in my backpack)

All the req. paperwork for CalSO

Cell, wallet, iPod, etc

Toiletries (toothbrush, etc)

A change of clothing for night and next day

Anything else? Like do we need anything for the bed, toilet paper, etc?
Thanks

sheets and towels are provided, so is TP. Bring soap and shower shoes (flip flops.) And their pillows suck so bring your own.

I love CalSO threads because incoming students can help one another without the aid of returning students. Your responses imbue with definitiveness, an air of finality in that your answers are not to be questioned as you have "seen the other side," a refreshing conciseness that's to the point; Isn't it a wonderful feeling to share information grounded on experience, as opposed to conjectures based on information available on the Berkeley website? =T

Just thought I should share.

Much love,
TTG

Oh geez bro, that was a mouthful!

Practicing beautiful prose are we? :D

But yea, I wholeheartedly agree.

so is calso 90% "ice breaker" games?

I'd say about 50%. Much else of CalSO is getting to know a little bit about campus life, learning about school traditions, asking questions, and signing up for classes. I never made friends with anybody from my CalSO group just because I didn't live near any of them and didn't share any classes with them. That's the thing about Cal - unless you actually try, it's hard to keep in touch with people because it's just so big.

CalSO had a lot of workshops that were kinda boring, for me atleast, but the speakers were somewhat inspirational, and the class schedule help relieved a lot of stress off me

I would say bring your own extra comforter for the bed. Both my roomate and I agreed it was COLD at night and the sheets they provided were not enough.

oh yea dude, I cracked open the window for the night...bad idea.

are we suppose to know what classes we want before we go? or do we choose them there? because i haven't looked over any of the classes they have there.

I just got back. I have to say a few things:

Bring your own pillow. I felt as if I was sleeping without a pillow. It really sucked
I sweat a lot. It was dreadfully hot for me, even at night. But than not for everyone else, so take it how you will.

Oh and be prepred for tons of Stanford and SoCal bashing. Don't wear red. ;)

definately don't wear red!!! i loved calso, i made a bunch a friends, and had a blast.

we ditched the pre-planned activities they provided and went 2 blakes on telegraph...that was kinda lame, but then a group of about 14 of us were invited to a frat party and it was SICK!!! all that fun packed into one night, and it was only orientation...it was awesome, i can't wait till welcome week.

that was all at night btw

night is f***ing cold, bring blanket
and pillow like royrules22 said
and money if you wanna get stuff to eat/drink during night activities

I should wear a red shirt and mess with you incoming freshman during your CalSO tours :)
