can someone please explain to me what telebears is? and phases? I don’t understand how registration works at all! I feel so stupid…

Start here, then ask questions. [Enrollment Rules and Information - Office Of The Registrar](http://registrar.berkeley.edu/prospective_students/registration_enrollment/tbinfo.html)

registration is broken into two halves - phase I and II - to let every student get a shot at their most desired classes, rather than let the ones who register earlier snap up everything. You can sign up for up to 10.5 units of courses (typically courses are 3 or 4 units each) in phase I. Registration is by priority, sort of, in each phase, with seniors, recruited athletes, regents scholars and disabled student program members first, down through the years with freshmen at the end of the phase. You get an appointment for each phase - that is the earliest you can sign up for classes in the phase.

So even if you go to CalSo, that is not a guarentee that you will get the classes you pick because it depends on what appointment you are given?

You’re not guaranteed (enrolled in) the classes you pick if,

at your appointment for Phase I or Phase II:

1) available seats are full so you have to waitlist or
2) available seats are not reserved for you so you have to waitlist or
3) waitlist is full (then you shop around for a different class) or
4) everyone has to waitlist before getting enrolled

That’s what I know off the top of my head.

Obviously your Phase I appointment is earlier than your Phase II appointment, so you want to sign up for your most preferred classes during Phase I.

but if I dont go to cal bears, do i still get a phase 1 appointment? on my calso page, it says if I dont go, i register in midjuly and i thought midjuly was phase 2?

The day of CalSO is the phase I for incoming freshmen. If you don’t go to CalSO then you get an appointment at the tail end of phase I, just before it switches to Phase II (and back to the front of the line).

do students of college of letters and science also go to calso just like any other students?
and when I log on to register for calso
it says “fsa” or “mtu” and im not sure what they mean

All incoming students go to CalSO, however each CalSO date may handle only some of the colleges. Many of the dates include L&S, as it has the highest population across Cal. Your account should list only the sessions that permit L&S students. [Important dates](http://services.housing.berkeley.edu/NSS/Content/dates.html#fpd.html) is the entire list of sessions.

You are going to kick yourself - fsa stands for . . . Friday and Saturday
mtu stands for . . . Monday and Tuesday

The days of the week that the session takes place.

Uh… you’ll probably laugh, but how do you sign up for CalSo? Do you have to send in your SIR first or something, because I don’t recall getting an email about it… anyway, a link would be great! Thanks

[Welcome to CalSO!](http://services.housing.berkeley.edu/NSS/Content/Welcome.html)

You have to commit to the school first lol

Is it necessary to bring your parent to CalSo? Can I get along by myself?

There is a sign-up option if parents want to come along, but during Calso the parents are separated from the students and have their own itinerary. I wouldn’t recommend that parents come along unless they insist upon it. You’ll be rooming with and grouped with other incoming frosh so you’ll be fine on your own.

Thanks, yellowbus. I appreciate the info!
