Caltech 3-2 Program

I recently discovered Caltech's 3-2 Engineering program (http://admissions.caltech.edu/applying/32), and I would like to learn a little more about it.

How selective is the program? I read a 2004 CC post from an Occidental College counselor who said that, so far, all students had been accepted into the Caltech 3-2 program, but back then Caltech's regular admission rate was significantly higher (~17%).

Do 3-2 students generally succeed at Caltech? I know Caltech is supposed to be one of the most challenging schools of all time, and it seems like an LAC education might not be sufficient preparatory work to enter Caltech as a junior.

How is the Caltech experience different for 3-2 students? If you were a 3-2 student at Caltech, what was it like?

I’m bumping this thread because I contacted Karly Brockett, as suggested by the Caltech website (https://www.admissions.caltech.edu/applying/32), and received an e-mail saying that she no longer works in admissions.

Does the Caltech 3-2 program even exist anymore?

Apparently, it’s still alive (though I have yet to come into contact with a student from this program on campus):

https://www.admissions.caltech.edu/content/32-program

From briefly skimming the Google results, searching “Caltech 3-2 program” yields many useful results. If the link has moved for something, just search directly on the Caltech Admissions website for “3-2 program”.

My son was admitted to cal tech; he will be studying engineering but I didn’t hear anything about a 3-2 program.

@“aunt bea”: The 3-2 program is for students who first spend three years at an LAC and then two years at Caltech.

Thanks!
