lesie, if you dont mind my asking, how were your son's stats?

that must have hurt pretty bad leslie..

well you know what to do now..........show EXTREEME interests to both schools.....start sendin those letter or extreme interests to MIT and caltech........email them....ask them abt the wheteher......send some updated info......

its still not over.....he can still make it!

His stats:
SAT I good, but not great:
Reading 700, Math 720, Writing 720, essay: 10

SATII much better:
Math Level 2 800, Chemistry 800 Literature 700

ACT-he took it twice and made perfect 36 on 3 of 4 sections (math, reading, science) and a 35 in English between the two test sessions. He had an overall of 35 twice and did well on the writing portion.

His essays were ok and his teacher recs were probably along the lines of "one of the best in my career". He had lots of drama and musical activities, no leadership (ran for offices, but never elected). He also had lots and lots of awards in the scholar bowl\academic challenge area. HE was MVP of his high school scholar bowl team 3 years and MVP of several big regional tournaments. He was 1st or 2nd in state in Chemistry at the Academic challenge. Academic Challenge is a program in Illinois where teams take college level tests and compete as a team and individually at regional, sectional and state level. Our high school isn't the greatest (rural farming area) and only 25% of the kids go on to 4 year universities. We have severan honors courses and only have AP calculus and no other AP. He wants to major in physics and luckily is admitted to University of Illinois which is one of the top 10 schools in the country. He'd like to go to a smaller private school............now to wait on the other 8 application decisions coming in two weeks..............this is nerve-wracking!!!

my son got rejected from MIT yesterday( his dream school) btw SAT 2400- 800- 800- 720 but less than perfect GPA

tell your son good luck, leslie!

I was rejected at MIT, but still have yet to hear from caltech. I am from thailand btw so when should i expect to get decision letter from caltech? I am so worried... seems like alot of ppl already got their caltech decisions

rejected by MIT, but no surprise there...it was a shock though when i was rejected by UCLA, but i feel a little better now that im accepted by WashU

rebbiz,

how/when did washu send decisions......my fren applied...he never got the decision........were u an ED applicant to washu...

anonamous, caltech decisions will be emailed to u on tuesday, March 21st.

got rejected from mit. but i disliked by interview.er... and i hate math and science.

lol
im not upset.

Why did you apply to MIT if you hate math and science?

because im good at them

Im officially a loser... rejected from both caltech and MIT
:(

LeslieM, your son should have gotten into Caltech and MIT...especially with that chemistry stuff...and he has great grades...hope he gets in though..

and btw...University of illinois isn't one of the top 10.

Rejected from MIT EA....I didnt expect much since they had so many apps this year. Its a hard school to get into so I didnt want to get too attached :P(though it was my tops ;))
I think Ill instead be going to either Case Western(70%) or PSU(30%)

okay, the reason we got rejected was because the interviewers decided we were TOO good looking for MIT.

MIT wants to keep up its reputation as being a tough and demanding school. They rejected us because they knew that we would breeze through the workload.

Rejected at MIT
but i dont care since my scores and achievements were way below MIT level…
GOT accepted at UCLA, U-Mich , UIUC and Purdue
I’ll probably be heading to UMICH , anybody else doing the same ?

MIT seems not a good place for me lol

Rejected at MIT EA, and then Caltech RD. Didn’t care too much for the Caltech one since I had gotten into Williams and Williams > Caltech for me :).
