decent chance, but bump up the sat score, 2300 if possible for the best shot (dude i sounded SO indian right there...LOL) :)
have you done more things math/science related? you have tons of social activities like clubs and basketball and boys state, but id bet caltech would love to see "science fair" "math decathalon" or "science olympiad"...think you can get involved with something like that before apps?

stueydude, research the Siemens competition...if you win that or even get into finals i dare say youre not only into Caltech but in MIT also LOL :)

you are going to be a senior though, right? so basically you have until november-ish to join some clubs: do you have any math/science clubs at your school? at my school, for example, they have math and science olympiad clubs that meet at lunch and anyone can get involved...? the math decathalon thing is only available at some schools (its more like a class, or so ive heard), and since it isnt at mine, i cant tell you much about it :(

also, do you think you can participate in some research? perhaphs at a local clinic? these are all pretty unneccesary though, as i think youre pretty much in...just check up on the math/science clubs at school :D

let us know if you get in or not! good luck future cal-techer! :)

thanks everyone
is it harder to get into CalTech or MIT and should i be considering both??
what are my chances at MIT???
anyone else care to share for both schools??

don't you just hate the reading score?
i have a 2150 with a 640 in reading.. quite similar to you.
anyway, not comparing me to you anymore, as my extracurriculars are extremely close to none, which kicks out quite a few colleges.

anyway. i'd say you have a decent chance, it's obviously the reading score hurting you. if it were writing, you know, less of a deal, but of course the reading score has to be so much more important (i have a 790 in writing. the one no one cares about. my luck, right?). anyway, i'd go for 650+, obviously preferably 700+. but honestly, everything else is probably good. MIT is pretty similar. write creative essays, of course, although i have absolutely no input to give you on that matter.

MIT might be a reach school for you...please dont take any offense, but im just saying this because the people i know who got in were state science fair winners, in every math/science competition there was and won at them, and all had 2300+ SAT with amazing essays...
thats not to say that EVERY candidate has to fir that profile, its just a trend that seems to be developing...
if theres anything you can do right now, its getting that SAT score up! study as hard as you can and take the sat in october or november to improve the critical reading score :)

alright thanks guys i guess my number one priority is getting that critical reading up!!! i'll definitely work at it until october's test which im hoping for a 2300+ (800 math, 780ish Writing, 720ish Critical Reading)
thanks for all the input so far!
