how many people applied for Caltech this year? any prediction on how many people Caltech will give admissions?

More than before and yes are the answers, but I would be beaten with a stick if I said anything more precise. :)

i wonder why some college immediately (and proudly) announce their #'s, while some hesitate...

maybe i should've tried working at NSA instead of NIH to dig up intel :] hah jk.

Well, few colleges will predict publicly how many they plan to admit, since that depends on how the process goes.

Ben ~ What are the next milestones that an RD apllicant might see? When will something happen...letters, calls, or anything.

The notification comes by letter, typically in late March (if I recall correctly -- certainly not much later than April 1). Applicants don't usually get any mail between now and then. (I.e., no "likely letters", for example.)

After being notified by letter, admitted students often receive a phone call from a current student to answer questions and discuss Caltech.

but, will caltech email me that my application is complete?

Yes. You main want to call the main admissions number to make sure all your materials are in if you're not sure.

"You main want to call the main admissions number to make sure all your materials are in if you're not sure."

So, if I don't call, they will never notify me? how sad? I don't have money to call long distance. I don't even think my school will let me borrow the phone for long distance....sad....

No no, they should email you in any case... another (free) option is to email ugadmissions@caltech.edu -- sorry, I should have suggested that in the first place, I didn't realize long distance would be a problem.
