[] why you think you were accepted/rejected/defered: I'm really agog right now. You've heard it before. I thought I might have a slight chance of MIT, but I was looking for a tiny envelope for Caltech. I have no idea how this happened guys. Maybe Caltech likes Chess people? I'm with JSuresh - big Chess guy, though no national awards since summer before 9th

thanks Ben!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations to all of you!

What did acceptance letter look like?

It comes in a dark gray/orange package and the letter is written on Caltech letterhead.

Dang, I should've applied. MIT totally pwned me (their loss :) ).

There's still time :-). Apply regular!

I was going to post an image of the letter.... but then I realized I don't want my address / name there

If given a day or two, I plan to post an image of the letter and folder. I'll also post my box essay, if anyone wishes to see it.

yea getting that caltech acceptance letter with the sleek folder on time was amazing. :] It says Welcome to Caltech in front of the folder...

I loved my box response! I had a picture of a flower and a 3-d graph of a flower i made in spherical coordinates using maple. it was awesome!

I'd like to see it.

I got accepted but then again, I don't feel like posting now.

I didn't get a Welcome to Caltech folder when I got accepted. But Stanford sent me a magnetic poetry set. Whee.

That was a poetry set? They seemed to be random pro-Stanford slogans, insignia, and other stuff.

I think I got a photo of the entire admissions comittee at Caltech over New Year's or Christmas.

Hahahaha, even better! :-D

Wow, these stats are indeed very impressive.
I wonder if all the applicants need very high scores (750-800 SATs) in order to apply.

Decision: Deferred **
[] EA/RD?: EA
**Stats:
[ul]
[] SAT: 1430 800 Math, 730 Verbal
[] SAT IIs: 800 Math IIc, 780 Chem
[] GPA: 4.33
[] Rank: 21/400 sumthin
[] AMC/AIME/USAMO: 132.5 AMC-12/ 3 AIME/no USAMO
[] Other Olympiads: Scioly - top 25 teams in nation
[] Other stats: Siemens Westinghouse Competition National Finalist, 4th Place
Science Bowl Nationals, top 16 teams
Researcher at National Lab[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: good? I dunno prolly pretty bad
[] Teacher Recs: I hope good, I'm pretty sure
[] Counselor Rec: Pretty good I think, I don't ask
[] Hook (if any): Umm...siemens....and science bowl...and the national lab researcher thing....i think i'm the only kid in the nation who can say that....but i dunno. meh..it's frustrating[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: TN
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: Male, Middle Class and white
[] Gender: Male
[] major strength/weakness: Umm...I'm uber at science and math and i'm funny, i'm a nice guy, i swear ;-)/i forget stuff
[] why you think you were accepted/rejected/defered: i kinda didn't send them my SAT II scores and left a page outta the app that i had to email to them...hehehehe Also, Siemens wasn't on my app at the time cuz it was too late.
[/ul]Other Factors:i dunno, they don't like me. My white space was brilliant. I spelled out Nick <3's CalTech in math. It's kinad long but it's the summation from 1 to n of i = ni then x= y^2 which is a c then <0,0,1> the k vector. Then i did r = 1-sin(theta) for a heart. then i did 4.184 J for Cal(orie). Tech was t taylor series expansion of e, which is long as hell to write out, where X was the speed of light (c) times planck's constant (h) so it was te^ch. So it spelled Nick <3 CalTech. It was brilliant i thought. YAY! And cool. Anyway, i was deferred, prolly cuz i forgot stuff

you look better than me and I got in?

(except for GPA)

also... 800 + 730 isn't a 1430 =P

meh, i just got up and i'm tired
