I just called caltech and the guy there told me that they're sending the decision out by mail this week!

I'm so nervous right now. are you?

I just called caltech and the guy there told me that they're sending the decision out by mail this week!

I'm so nervous right now. are you?

Wait, this week? Like between now and Friday? Because that seems way too soon. nervous

I called to check if my application status was complete, and the guy said I was a bit late b/c they're alreadying mailing the decision THIS WEEK. I live in the east coast, so the guy said I'll probably receive it "somewhere around next week", since, you know, it's mail and not online decision.

I'm so nervous. Though it doesn't matter even if I get rejected. I already got into good colleges.:)

Really? where else did you get in kokoda2? For me, MIT would probably be the first one I'll hear from. And Caltech is probably next. I really hope I won't receive disappointing news from the start.

lol I'm expecting 3 rejections to end off all my college decisions. I'd rather have disappointing news first and then really happy news, but I'll take what I can get with good news anytime ^^

I'm waiting for MIT, too.
I got defered from Harvard, and accepted to UNC-Chap.hill, UCLA, Amherst, and Williams. Also, got likely letter from Columbia and Dartmouth.

On the "latest news" section of the Caltech Admissions website:

"Regular Action Applicants Regular action decision letters were mailed on Wednesday, March 15. Offers of admission to students whose mailing address is outside the United States were sent via FedEx. Other decisions to mailing addresses outside the United States were sent via Air Mail. A copy of the letter sent will be emailed to the email address provided on the application on Tuesday, March 21.

If you have not received a decision from Caltech by Thursday, March 23 you should contact our office at 626.395.6341 and we will have another decision mailed to you. We are sorry, but we do not give admissions decisions over the phone nor do we routinely email decisions to students with US mailing addresses.

Caltech received a total of 3319 applications and we have made offers of admission to 506 students. "

Hope that helps. Good luck to all RD applicants!

Oh no! I don't want to open my mailbox now.

lol me neither! maybe it'll be there tomorrow gasp. i hope the rejection is in nice words. i've seen some actually very nice rejections that didn't make me feel crummy...srsly

i live in rancho cucamonga, 30 minutes away from pasadena. that means i get mine tomorrow, right?

Best of luck, prefrosh!

I live about 10 minutes away, so most likely I'll get my letter tomorrow. I need to toughen myself up for the rejection. :(

Los Angeles... 30-40 minutes away. Holy frack, I'm scared. I've re-instituted the "nobody except me is allowed within a one meter radius of the mailbox until further notice" rule.

:-[

-Oren

FYI, I think I remember when we went through this last year we noticed the phenomenon that people in SoCal tended to get their letters a day later than those a little farther away -- the postal system doesn't always work how you think it does. So don't despair if you don't get yours tomorrow.

oh, this's so exciting!

do people who are accepted receive "fat" envelopes?

how long does it take for a regular mail to reach NY from CA?

Hmm, let me check. OK, according to the center for obese mail and other postage, it will take your "fat letter" approximately five hundred day, twenty-three hours, and thirty four seconds to reach NY. Hey, fat mail need to take lots of breaks!

"I've re-instituted the "nobody except me is allowed within a one meter radius of the mailbox until further notice" rule."

Going to be tough for the mailman to get it in. In fact, he might just turn around and go back to the post office and mark the mail Undeliverable and then it will be lost deep in the bowels of the Post Office for ever and all time.

That would be most unfortunate.

Perhaps you'll make an exception for him?

lizzardfire, you drove me really crazy! ohhhhh, please tell me that i got in......

OK, you got in... to the center for studies of crazy nervous breakdown prone people!!! :D
