Here’s the prompt: In an increasingly global and interdependent society, there is a need for diversity in thought, background, and experience in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. How do you see yourself contributing to the diversity of Caltech’s community? (200 word max)
I’m not sure if it’s asking about diversity in general or diversity in STEM only because the last sentence seems like it’s referring to contributing to diversity in general but the previous sentence makes it seem like they’re only talking about diversity in STEM.
Aside from that, I wanted to talk about how I grew up in a diverse neighborhood and school. I know it sounds cliche but I feel like the diversity I grew up with was really strong. my 5 neighbors around me (left, right, and 3 houses in front) were literally Indian, Mexican, white, black, and Fillipino. And also the school I go to is composed of over 90% ethnic minorities (school profile says about 94%). I wanted to start off with all that and then talk about how I gained a variety of perspectives.
