Caltech Question Thread

ahhh I'm still sore from phys 1bc!

take Ph 12 frosh! ACM 95 is easy and you're good at it.

Just wondering, how many people here, on CC, are from Ruddock, the best house ever? :)

Avery is the best :D

You mean, "Avery boring place" is the best? :p

Avery is the best what? Avery's not a house! (note to those that don't go to Caltech--this is a joke)

I know there are at least three Lloydies on here, although only two that post very much (myself and another)

I'm a Fleming (I live in Fleming Hovse for those non-Caltech students), and I think that pwnzdelownz or whatever guy is a Skurve living in Ricketts Hovse.

Okay, if Avery is not a house, the house I like best (second after Avery) is Ruddock or Lloyd!

Dauntless, you're a Flem, not a Fleming.

Also, I think it's best not to talk of houses on here, in part because of possible Rotation issues, but also because there's no point in having internet flame wars about which houses are better or worse than other houses.

I disagree. I think flame wars are dumb, but the houses are an integral part of Caltech life and there may be some interesting and useful stuff said if people discuss them. Maybe this is my inner aversion to any kind of gag rule talking.

Considering that the 2012 students haven't even been accepted yet, let alone made the decision to attend, and the fact that polite one-liners about House affiliation "unfairly bias" people as much as telling them the House colors... I'm confident in saying this discussion is perfectly fine.

Hi. I'm applying from the university of Edinburgh for an exchange to cal tech. Edinburgh has sent lots of engineers, but so far to my knowledge no biologists/biochemists. On the admissions info, it says that you need lots of math and physics etc in first/2nd yr to apply for the exchange to cal tech for 4rd yr. My difficulty is that in the UK degrees are very specialized, so you can't take courses outside of your degree therefore I only have high school IB HL maths and physics, no univ physics/maths. My question is if I want to study molecular biology or genetics... how critical is the pre-requisite? I enjoy maths and physics, but don't have any uni credits. Do you know of any UK exchange students in 3rd yr Biology at Cal Tech? I'm just wondering if by any change they bend the rules for an exchange student?

Sorry last post was to UndulyLlamarific who seems to be the only biologist type on this forum

One last point, sorry, an exchange student is not a transfer student. We spend only 3rd yr at Cal Tech and then return to our home university. I understand a few Cal Tech students went to Edinburgh... It's be interesting to hear about their experience..

On the contrary, Avery is a very fine House :)

What a Llie

(sorry, I know that's horrible)
