i believe mit's quota only applies to international students.

My frosh class didn't have anyone from Delaware.

my school doesn't offer AP Physics C, but does offer B
what exam should i take? AP Physics B or AP Physics C (but with probability of getting 3-4 on it)?
thanks

AP Phys B will be fine.

Ben,
Can you offer insight on transfer admissions (domestic) to Caltech?....

Not really... transfer admissions is done by a separate committee. What I know has just been gleaned from conversations with colleagues in admissions:

It's hard (less than 5% acceptance rate, if I recall correctly).

It depends a lot on placement test results, so know your math/phys/chem pretty well.

I'd be happy to try to find more specific answers to more specific questions :)

I am sure you are far more informed than I am, so I will ask anyways.

How much weight is placed on the placement exam in comparison to the applicant's overall academic background, experiences, and need to transfer? I have heard of people being accepted before they even take the exam, but wasn't sure if it was true.

Also is high school performance a big factor?
Can students enter Caltech with more than 2 yrs of undergraduate course work?
Thanks in advance.

do I have any chance to be accepted?
I'm from Panama. I'm in my senior year of high school; my school classes are only given in english. Most of my grades are A+, except for two A's and one B. I have won several national olympiads and scientific fairs. I have won Gold Medal in the Physics National Olympiads, Silver medal in the Math National Olympiads, and Silver Medal in the National Chemistry Olympiads. Besides that, I've been in a school team which has won the 1st place in a scientific fair at a local university. I'm going to do my SAT next month, but I still have to take two subject tests whose date is January, 2009. I'm wondering if it's too late to apply for Caltech since the subjects tests are in january which will be after the deadline date.

Just so you know, this thread hasn't been posted in since 2005.

ok, so caltech is basically my dream college, and I’ve recently stumbled upon this thread and wanted to see if you could answer a couple of my questions. So my high school offers a ROP program. i was going to take an ROP class my senior year in computer science, for these classes you are off campus and doing real field work. however, in order to take these classes you have to pretty much use half of your school day and the result is only having 3 classes. i wanted to know if my college application would look better if i took the class or not, the two situations would look like this: with ROP-1 math class 1 English class 1 science class, then ROP/ without-2 math classes 1 English class 2 science classes and an extra elective. p.s. im a sophomore right now
