I have a few questions regarding caltech essays.

is it necessary that the personal statement be around science & technology ?

ethical dilemma essay - what is the expectation from that essay?

prank essay - ?

diversity to caltech community ?

Caltechs opportunities and resources fueling intellectual curiosity?

LOL… they are different than other school’s essays :-). Approach them the best way you know how. They are looking at your creativity and substance in your replies.

Perhaps you should understand more about Caltech before doing the essays.

1 - no

Just read about caltech, and then suck up to the admissions people as much as you can.

That’s how I got in :)

Not sure if you’ve read up on it or not, but Caltech has an honor code system ([The Honor Code - Caltech Caltech Undergraduate Admissions](http://admissions.caltech.edu/techers/honorcode)) which its undergrads value greatly. Because of it, probably 95% of your finals and midterms will all be take home, and people leave their doors open all the time without having to worry about someone else stealing their stuff. That being said, in the ethical dilemma essay, you want to show that you will continue to uphold the values of the honor code. Hope that makes sense!

Did you ever face a situation where you were not sure whether you should cheat or act in the correct way - for example, calling a ball out in tennis to win a match. Did you cheat? Did you learn from it etc.

Caltech has many resources - faculty, labs, computing power etc. How do you think you can use them - try to relate to some of your interests and if you can nurture your interests using these resources.
