CalTech Up Close

Has anyone heard anything about CalTech Up Close for the fall of 2015? Do you have to be invited to apply, or can you do so on your own? My brother is a rising senior who is interested in computer science and/or electrical engineering at CalTech. However, we live in the midwest and it would therefore be difficult to visit. He is an African Americanmale whose stats (34 ACT) make him a viable candidate for CalTech.

Also, can someone provide a link to the programs website? Im having a difficult time finding info about it.

Some fly-in’s like Penn, Chicago, and Caltech are invite-only: you receive an invitation to apply with a link to the application through email. I think in the case of Caltech, it should come in mid-August. That’s why you won’t find a link on the website- it’s only targeted towards URM’s and the like.

@gebo342
But he is a URM…and his stats should theoretically have landed him an invite. Other highly selective institutions have invited him to their diversity fly-in programs. He went to DartmouthBound this summer and was invited to another one at MIT (forget the name of it), as well as several other offers from colleges he’s not looking at. Do you think it would be okay to contact the admissions office and inquire?

@CCuser528 Check your mail. Just got an invite today.

You have to be invited.

Caltech won’t post their functions online. If you call, they’ll just ask you to check your email or mailbox.

They are very busy right now with their incoming class information. Don’t call them to force an answer. They do things on their schedule.

Also, why are you intervening for your brother? Not a good sign on his part.

I am not sure this program still exists. The link on Caltech website does not work.

Accepted… it does still exist.
