(the application date passed) Did anyone from CC apply to this program? Where are you guys from?

Applicant from Nevada. Anyone know whether YESS is considered "selective"?

3 of my friends applied... unfortunately none are "minorities"... I believe it's fairly selective, about SSP level

I applied from Iowa....it says its pretty selective on their website....yeah i wouldnt be considered a minority in the scientific world i guess....

I applied from NY - and I'm in the same boat as Isingh (who I'm guessing is Asian..maybe Indian?)

haha yeah lmaoooo I'm Indian

where else did you guys apply?

I did RSI and SSP, I'm gonna do the SuMac app soon

I applied to the first two....I have been doing math for the past few summers so I decided not to apply for anything completely math related.

Anyone know when we're supposed to be notified whether or not we got in. waits in anticipation

i called caltech a few days ago, and they told me that they will be mailing (in about a week or so) the status of our applications. i think that means if they have recieved everything they need, etc....

still waiting :)

they emailed us to tell us if they recieved our apps...so do we also get emails telling us if we have been accepted or not?

When did they email us to say they received our apps?

waits by the mailbox every day

oh they emailed me a couple days ago saying they recieved my app.....i just fully read it...it says decisions will be mailed by early april

Lol, should I be worried? (didn't get any email...)... Hope I get in though. crosses fingers Yknow specifically what kind of labs/activities/lectures they have and how long? Anyone that has participated before able to give some insight?

haha i think you should probably email them and ask or something....they are gonna start to review apps soon...all I know about the program is on the website.....here is what the website says:

All YESS participants take two research-oriented science courses led by Caltech graduate students. Each course includes lectures, hands-on experiments, project work, research presentations and lab tours. The courses aim to expose program participants to fundamental science principles while giving them the opportunity to propose further questions in the fields. For the summer of 2007, Biology/Neuroscience and Physics/Engineering will be offered.

WHAT?! i didnt get an email ... -runs off to the yess website-

ahhh...now i feel like i got a fake email and someone is just playing with me lol

haha Isingh nvm, i got the email today!
Here it is:

Dear [MY NAME],

Thank you for your application to the YESS program at Caltech. Your application is complete and will be reviewed by the admissions committee. Decision letters are expected to be mailed out in early April.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Thank you...

on their website they say its "extremely competitive".....i know it must be hard since it is free, but that is kind of shady considering they don't give numbers...how competitive is it really?

I'm not sure -- but im applying from NY (across the country), so it might be more "competitive" for me? I have no idea ...
