bumpppppp :D

Truthfully, it does not seem to have the reputation of some of the other programs (RSI, TASP, SHARP, etc.) though that may be due to its age? Anyone know how long the program has been around or any former YESSmen/women? I'm still hoping I get in though (still at Caltech and free so...)!

haha yeah i applied cuz it was free also...i hope i get into this one and ssp...cuz they are pretty much where i want to be considering i am stuck in iowa.....

Anyone know about how many people apply to YESS? (attempts at keeping the thread on first page).

I applied to YESS...heard about it one week before the deadline and sent it in a day before...got an e-mail so at least i'm being considered...i'm from va and i also applied to cornell nanobiotech and summer governor's school here

I bet if you email them jakor, they will tell you know how many people apply. I also applied to Cornell Nanobiotech but considering 10 ppl get in, I won't unless they absolutely loved my letter of intent (highly unlikely) since they don't ask for any recs or anything else.

I still feel stupid about not getting emailed that my app was received.. starts to get pretty worried.. lol

southernazn- what is governor's school. Keep hearing about it but I have no idea what it is/ what you do/ where/ etc. ?

The Summer Residential Governor's School is a state-funded program for Virginia high school students. You basically apply to one of the programs (i did life sciences & medicine), and then go through a rigorous selection process. The one I hope to go to is at MCV, VCU's medical campus. It's four weeks long, and from what I hear from friends that went there, it's a really fun experience. It also looks good on college apps, because it's not one of those programs that you can buy your way into. Since the state actually has to pay a couple thousand dollars per student, you have to be really good to get accepted. Like I said, this is only for Virginians. I think there are some for other states, but I don't have details on those. Hope this helps.

a few weeks until acceptance letters are sent ... :D

another bump :P

YAY! I finally got the "we have your app" email. That almost gave me a heart attack ^.^;

congrats Jakor!
still waiting for a acceptance / rejection letter..........

Same here... so totally hoping I got in. They said about 450 people applied and only 30 are accepted. Less than a 7% chance....!

when do we find out if we got in?

early april they will send out letters....i highly doubt i got in....who knows...i wonder what the percentage of underrepresented minorities that are accepted to the program because it is made for them but people have mentioned that a lot of the students that went there weren't minorities.

ok, i gotta say, what an acronym.
some bitter irony if someone ends up getting a "no" letter from YESS.

hahah lol...too bad 93% get No as their answer...if I get rejectes(most likely) i should write them an email about it.

Already got a reject letter from RSI. crosses fingers for a 'YESS'!

........... -frantically hopes-

Jakor same here, but I'm not too surprised.....So are any of you guys minorities?
