I am rejected. It could have been worse; but we know Caltech is competitive. Any other accepted international?

commiserations anik, libindaniel and cradleoffilth. but as anik said there are plenty of other fish in the sea and i am sure you guys will be able to reel in a couple really soon.

Congratulations, wannabe!

Anybody got a reply by email yet?
Congrats for all those who got in...

@rkhuja:
Did ya get in?

nope i've waiting for the email decision for soo long but nothing yet...

Btw libindaniel2000 what other unis did ya apply to and what country r ya from?

In: ERAU, IIT
Out: CalTech
Waiting: MIT, Stanford, Princeton, Purdue( purdue people have stopped replying to the mails, anyways).
Am from India.

I was rejected. I will post my email here, and I want to ask the rejected people, just out of curiosity: did you receive exactly the same email?

On behalf of the staff, faculty and students on the Admission
Committee, I
would like to thank you for the time and effort taken in completing
your
application to Caltech. It is with regret that the Admissions Committee
is
unable to offer you a place in Caltech's Class of 2012.

Given the number of highly qualified students who apply to Caltech each
year
and the very few places available, many talented students must be
turned away.

In light of the outstanding achievements and credentials you presented
to
Caltech, we have no doubt that you will have tremendous success as you
pursue a
demanding collegiate education. I encourage you to pursue your
educational
options with the same thoughtfulness with which you considered Caltech

I received same email

Same mail..
does anyone have any idea how many Indians get into caltech every year?
cz this year they have an admit rate of 17%.
And if wer still not getting in..
Did you apply for aid?

Wow, 17% heh? I know one person who got in from India. Thats about all I know. And I am almost sure that one more person I know would have gotten in...

There are many who wudhv gottn in but dint apply...make us luk stupid
Wt city ru frm?

anyone applied and got no reply yet?
I probably was rejected but i really want to know the decision....

I am from Chennai... I didnt apply actually :(

You shud have...its a risk worth taking...nywe..bestof luk fr all the others

@rkhuja
They sent emails to all intl. applicants yesterday night...if u haven't recd. an email yet..try calling
but if u hvnt recd. any fedex package..you are probably right

btw..the caltech rejection letter is not bad...iv heard stanford is quite "cruel"...
hopefully we wont see that side of stanford..:)

Daniel 2000, I see you've applied to Purdue. Well, the only reliable way to communicate with them is over the phone. You should keep contact with them, and check to make sure whether they've received all your credentials. I sent my HS transcripts to them over 2 weeks ago and it's still not on their file.

Out of curiosity, is a US state school or public institution a suitable place for an international? What is the atmosphere like for us? And are Purdue and Texas Austin degrees significantly more prestigious than Canadian degrees from McGill, U Toronto, and U Waterloo?

Shruthi, Abhijit, Rkhuja, Libin? anyone got answers?

Has anyone applied to UC Berkeley?

Check out this link: (Its the website of one of Delhi's best schools)
International Admissions - Delhi Public School R.K. Puram, New Delhi
they actually have people in Stanford...

I read somewhere that they regularly send around 250 ppl/year to HYPM and all the other top universities.

@Anik: Purdue, UT Austin etc have loads of Indians, so it's a decent place if you ever feel like you need some Indian company. After all, nothing beats randomly abusing in hindi once in a while.
