Cambridge vs Oxford MPhil in Economics

Got an offer from both Oxford and Cambridge for their Masters in Economics programs and don’t know which to pick. I’m most likely going to look for a job in finance/consulting after and know that i definitely DON’T want to do a Phd in Economics. I do however, want to go to a top US school for an MBA and so was wondering:

  1. Which of these programs is viewed as more prestigious/better perceived overall?
  2. For top US MBAs, which program would increase my chances (if any)?
  3. As i am potentially planning on moving to the US, is Oxford or Cambridge better known?

They’re the same. This is like the difference between Harvard and Stanford or Harvard and MIT (or Harvard and Yale). Pick on fit.

agree with @PurpleTitan. pick for the town or specifics of the programme.

People either know both of those or none of those. Pick the one you like better

The number of American MBA program adcoms who don’t know either of these would be about zero.

Cambridge is so much prettier. Very easy trains to London from both. Go for Cambridge.

Oxford is closer to Heathrow so more convenient for flights in/out.

Cambridge is better for MPhil Economics. Oxford’s one is 2 years and because Oxford doesn’t have a “pure” econ undergrad course, the masters is used to help them catch up.

But they don’t just take students from Oxford, and in fact the prerequsiste for the MPhil IS a first degree in economics. It’s the lead-in to the PhD.

The difference wih the Cambridge course is that the latter is intended as a terminal masters. So that does make it the better choice for the OP given his/her stated goals.

which is better in terms of quality of program/reputation?

You seem to think that if you ask the same question, you’ll get a different answer.
Your behavior is . . . odd.

Error… Try again lol

1- Oxford won The Boat Race last week

…need I say more

@Conformist1688 is correct about airport transportation. There is direct bus to/from Oxford/Heathrow every 20 minutes. I believe the train between Ox/Paddington runs at least every 1/2 hour.

@Kajon understands the important things!

In the greater scheme of things not much difference, however in the much more important bragging rights stakes you can throw these kinda stats around, If Trinity College Cambridge was a country it would rank #5 in the world for Nobel Laureates.

Cambridge is pretty but dull. Oxford is more vibrant. Cambridge however has the Backs. Oxford has Dreaming Spires. I preferred Oxford as it was just more “happening”. Visit Cambridge around 6pm. It feels a bit like 24 Days Later.
