Cameron Impact Scholarship

This is a thread for those who have applied for the Cameron Impact Scholarship through the Bryan Cameron Education Foundation! This scholarship is new this year (2016), so I’m not quite sure of the number of applicants or the competition! Has anybody else applied?

I applied for it too!

@markb2017 How long were your responses?

@DreamforIvy They were all varying lengths. Some of them were quite long and others were only a couple of paragraphs. What about yours?

I wrote about 650-1000 words per question lol… There were two where I only put 2 paragraphs though (~200-300 words)

@markb2017

I am impressed by the quantity of your writing. I wrote less than that; most of my responses were in the four hundred words range. I am a little nervous now. I probably should have made my responses longer. Oh well, I just hope the quality of my answers will be sufficient. @DreamforIvy

I applied as well, and my essays are also arouns the 400 word mark. Who did you guys get your letters of rec from? And is there any benefit to applying early? (I didn’t). Just a reminder that we’re gonna be notified by our status at the end of October…so nervous!

@markb2017 I overestimated! Mine are around 600-700! And yeah, I’m just hoping the content of the essays will help. Also, this scholarship is NEW this year and 10-15 people win it, so I’m not quite sure if a lot of people actually know about it! That means we MIGHT even get the scholarship by default if there were only 10-15 that applied.

One of my essays IS 917 words though, but the rest are about 600-700

^Haha, I really do hope only 10-15 applied. So far the only people I know who applied to it are us three and a friend of mine at school. In addition, one of the judges/board members emailed me a day after one of my recommenders sent her letter to remind me to get a second one, so that kind of personal attention makes me think/hope that there weren’t very many applicants.

@ninemuses Honestly, it would be so lit if we ALL won this scholarship by default. That’s free college right there! We all NEED to post right away when we receive our decisions in October!

@DreamforIvy Right…I will cry if I win this scholarship, honestly. Yes, for sure!

I will legitimately cry too! I plan going to an Ivy League University or a school on that level of prestige. Winning this scholarship would cover ANY amount leftover after need based grants. Where do you guys aspire to go? I’m applying to Dartmouth, Yale, Stanford, Williams, Swarthmore, Vanderbilt, & Washington University. I’m feeling particularly hopeful about Dartmouth, Williams, Swarthmore, and Washington University due to the fact that I got accepted into very selective programs by them!

I’m applying to 23 colleges, so it may be too many to list haha but I’m applying to every Ivy League:)

Wow! I hope that you have some fee waivers; otherwise, that is going to be quite costly!

Oh wow, agreed with the above comment. Good luck on getting accepted! You have some safeties, right? I hope to be accepted to/attend a prestigious UC (UCLA, UCSD).

I am a parent, whose kid had only first heard about this scholarship approx 2 weeks before the sept 15 deadline, and scrambled like crazy to do that beast of an application in time while also attending the first two weeks of this school year bombarded with school homework. I think some scholarship money should be awarded just for surviving through that and actually getting the application submitted by the deadline, ha ha ! Or hopefully it WILL turn out that all of you get it by default if there were only grand total 15 applications or less submitted…ha ha !!

@splokey Oh wow! Good luck to your son in getting the scholarship, that sounds so difficult. Yeah, there was a lot of essay questions that required deep thinking…and getting the LOR’s…that is a lot of effort he put in.

the teachers said they had to answer specific questions for the LOR’s, too ! it was tough all around ! good luck to all !!
