I am a sophomore in High School. I am trying to decide between an internship in the D.A's office and a counselor job at my sleep-away camp. I am extremely interested in the law - president of my school's mock-trial team and founder of it's first moot court team. My grades are strong and I am hoping to get into a top tier college. I am torn....any advice as to what would be best for my future would be much appreciated!

For getting into a top tier college, it doesn't matter, as long as you actually do something during the summer. Just relax and do whichever one you think you'll enjoy more.

I would pick the D.A. internship, because it appears to be more involved with what you want to go into, and it sounds more fun. As an added bonus, it would almost definitely look better on a college app.

I doubt that doing the D.A. internship would look better.

How would it not chow?

internship obviously.

do the internship because it sounds like you would enjoy it slightly more than the camp thing.

The internship would contribute more to your overall strengths and better build the portrait of your aspirations. In other words, do it.

Wow, I must admit that I am insanely jealous of your internship opportunity! I think you should go for the internship! =)

I'd say the internship. Not so much for the admissions advanatage, but just because it sounds really cool.

In terms of admissions, my guess is that in the end the DA's office would look better, but conselour would be better essay fodder. After all, it's much easier to reach an epiphany comforting a young boy, or leading a small group than it is while standing at the copy machine

do the internship... not only will it look better than being a camp counselor, if you do well, you can also ask for a recommendation

My mom and I argued about that. She wanted me to do an internship very badly, I wanted to be a camp counselor. I went with the camp counselor, and it did me fine.

Do whichever you think will give you a better summer.

If you are like me, you have looked forward to camp every year. I know that i always looked forward to hanging with my camp friends and just the freeness that camp brings. My school friends always make fun of me for it but i love camp. If you feel like that too, then be a counselor. You have the rest of your life to work in an office setting. And once you're in college you are probably going to want internships over the summer, so for now i would say go for the camp counselor position. Like laurgirl said, i also did well in admissions going away to camp every summer. You can't go wrong with either and the DA internship sounds really cool, but as someone who loves camp, i would say be a counselor. Really just do whatever you think would be more fun. This summer i decided to be a counselor over doing an office job (even though my mom thought it would look better on a resume) an i am looking forward to it. Also, one of my friends told me though i don't know if this is neccessarily true (or what you would be doing at the internship) but the work they would have me doing at the office job like copying papers and what not anyone could do, but you have to show a certain level of responsibility to be trusted with a group of campers so perhaps a counselor job would look just as good or better on a resume
