Camp Kelley

Hi, my daughter is signed up for Camp Kelley as she is not living in the LLC. Has anyone here attended the camp?
What was your experience?

My D signed up for Camp Kelley as well. It may be a new program but I’m not sure. It will be a good opportunity to meet other Kelley Direct students before classes start. We didn’t see much downside to it. She just finished orientation so she is very excited to start in August.

FYI, I just received a reply to an email I sent asking about early arrival for Camp Kelley participants since they initially pointed us to RPS and RPS pointed us back…

They said they are working with RPS to allow Camp Kelley kids to move in the morning of the 15th since the camp starts that day and ends on the 19th. Hopefully they will have an update on the website soon and will email registered campers as well.

Thats good news, I thought we might have to wait until the 19th…

Well I think it’s good news too, but here’s the exact quote from the email: “We are hoping to offer early move-in on Friday, August 15 starting at 8 am as an option, and are working with Residential Programs and Services to make those final arrangements.”

Until I see a definite ‘yes we are’ instead of the ‘hoping to’, I will keep my fingers crossed. Making two 500+ mile round trips to IU in 4 days is not really an option I want to consider.

Move in on Friday Aug 15th is confirmed for students attending Camp Kelley. My D received an e-mail. Good news for sure!

Yep… very good. Of course I do have just one little question. Is the $52 one time? It sure sounds like it is. I’ll post here once I get clarification. If anyone else already asked, please let us know.

Here’s the relevant text for those who have not yet signed up for Camp Kelley.

"Early Move-In
If you are living on campus this fall and would like access to your residence hall room to move in your belongings, you may do so on Friday, August 15, as early as 8:00 am. Please note that there is a $52.00 Residential Programs & Services (RPS) Early Arrival charge assessed to your Bursar account to check in to your room. If you do not check into the Camp Kelley Early Arrival group by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 15th, you have the option to check in as the standard RPS Early Arrival group on August 17th, 18th or 19th for a charge of $36 per night. By checking into your residence hall room early you agree to pay the outlined charges above on your Bursar account. All early arrival charges will appear on your account as ‘Early Arrival/Break Housing’.

Please note: You do not need to make arrangements with RPS for Early move-in on August 15. Our office will submit all Camp Kelley participants into the early arrival move-in approval list. This list will allow you to check in at the residence hall center desk to get access to your room. All residence halls will open at 8:00 am."

Thanks for replies! Will have my daughter check her IU email.

FYI, I did receive confirmation that the early check-in fee is a single charge of $52 just like other programs.

Hope the kids all have a great time!

Would you guys mind posting your experiences with camp Kelley? I am thinking about it and want to know if it is a good thing to do.

Camp Kelley was fantastic last year! Lots of fun, great people, well worth it… It was a great way to ease into the IU experience and allows you to meet upperclassmen and others in a casual setting.

A huge added benefit was moving into my dorm early with no extra fees! You REALLY want to move in early and avoid the chaos of move-in day.
