Does anyone know about this? I'm planning on going but I'm still not sure. Has anyone been to this before or is anyone else planning on going too? It looks like a lot of fun!

My S went two years ago and loved it. He made a lot of new friends and still gets together with them to play “Monsters and Werewolves” and "Capture the Flag"almost every week. He loved it so much that he was a Camp Texas counselor last year.

How many people are there per session and are there smaller groups that they put you in to get to meet people more?

I was a camper coming into my freshman year (and a counselor the following year) and I had a BLAST at the event and met a good portion of my friends at UT there. The “camp” is pretty much a crash course on all of the traditions at UT, why students love going to school here so much, and a chance to meet and get advice from your counselors that already have a year (or two or three) under their belt.

There are two sessions of Camp Texas with about 18-20 groups in each session with about 8 or 9 people in each group, and two counselors to each group. The groups are guys and girls, but you sleep in gender segregated cabins, usually not with people that are in your group. part of what they’re going for in having you around so many different people is to help get you used to the idea of NOT being around the same few dozen people or so in each of your classes like you are in high school.

If you have a spot for Camp Texas, start getting excited though. Those counselors spend an entire semester getting amped up and trained to make CT a memorable event. Some of my best friends and favorite memories come directly from participating in Camp Texas. You’re gonna have a blast! I wish I could do it every summer haha

When does Camp Texas 2013 begin registration?

I believe last year it was May 1.

My son loved it a couple of years ago.

If you go, you’ll get to hear a few professors speak, one of whom will probably be my dad! Won’t tell you his name, but he’s a nice guy. When my son went, we didn’t tell him he would get to hear his grandfather speak, so it was a surprise for him.

Update.
According to Camp Texas facebook page sign ups will begin May 15th, and it will be 5 sessions.

I’m so glad I saw this thread! I didn’t know about Camp Texas before, but now I want to go. It seems like so much fun! I’m definitely going to try to make it happen.
