Who all went to Campus Day today? What all happened?

my friend did, here is what he said:

south quad looks nice, not run down or anything

south quad food was good considering it was dorm food

presentations were nice

I went today and basically the food is gross. I'm going to live on making myself pasta and avoiding the dorm food at all cost. South quad's rooms were bigger than I expected so that made me happy, but the hallways were really skinny (not that that matter it just was weird to me). We got to talk to the advisors for whichever school we're entering so in my case it was LSA. That was the best part for me because they're in charge of AP and transfer credits so you know that by asking them you'll actually get the right answer. They also can answer any questions regarding courseloads and graduating early. I left after that part, but after that there's the option of staying and looking at classrooms and stuff. It was cold outside, but still a good day.

Hah.... I can tell you the food is always brutal

How is it that a place like UM apparently has such terrible food and places like Central Michigan University have really good food? Can't they work on that?

I dont know why so many people hate the food. Ive eaten in every dorm except alice lloyd and the only place that had bad food was east quad at orientation. south quad and bursley have the best food in my opinion.

Why can't everyone just copy Cornell? (But without the super high tuition)

I went to CD on friday and ate at south quad, which I thought was pretty good... lots of variety. based on that experience, I don't see why people complain so much about UM food, but maybe it's not a good representation.

one of the things I was looking forward to most was sitting in on a class or two, but there are only like 3 available on fridays and the CD people didn't give us any guidance so we were pretty much on our own with finding them, so I didn't get to. that was disappointing.

Personally, I didn't find the Campus Day very beneficial or interesting when I went. Then again, I've already been on campus, stayed overnight at the dorms, and been on campus countless times. I went without my parents, and just with a few friends (our school sends about 50ish students to Michigan, and we're about a 20 minute drive away). First there is a long information session that you sit and listen to. They also give you lots of information on all sorts of UMich stuff (RC's, research opportunities, etc.) After that, the kids go into a private Q&A session with campus day people (students from UMich, ranging from freshman to juniors on the particular day that I went). Next, you are split up into groups to visit certain dorms (EQ, SQ, WQ, etc.) and you take a walking tour. At the conclusion of the walking tour, you will end up at one of the residence halls, where you will eat. You will also get a chance to look inside some dorm rooms to see what it is like. Next, all the groups meet up again in a building (I forget which one), where there is another Q&A session with some professors, and an academic advisor. After this, you split up again into different groups (depending on what you want to learn more about (ROSS, for example).

At this point, I decided I didn't feel like going any further, so I called up some of my friends at UMich and we hung out for the rest of the time...

To be honest, even if you can't go to Campus Day, I don't think your missing alot. Though it's nice to see the inside of the residence halls, and learn some more about UMich. Oh, don't forget to dress warmly. It's cold, and your goign to be outside for quite some time...

(copied/pasted from another thread)

I might add, that SQuad has 12x18 dorms, instead of 12x12 in most of the other dorms. Also, most people who receive SQuad housing are LSA honors (though many students get it who aren't in LSA honors). Oh and from what my friends tell me, SQuad is suppose to have the best food (though I'm sure that is subjective)

South quad is said to have the best food on Central Campus. Many will say Bursley (North Campus) has the best food. However, saying that any of the dorms has the "best" food is not saying much.

I agree that Bursley has the best food on campus. Nothing on main campus has really caught my attention though. Then again, I haven't eaten at South Quad yet

Did they give out a free shirt or anything? I want to buy a shirt...

No free shirts, just lotsa free packets of information :(

Where is the best place to buy shirts? the Union?

Either the union or this bookstore on campus called Ulrich's. http://www.ulrichs.com/

I went to campus day this Monday and I ate at Lloyd Hall and it wasn't that bad. I also walked around and went to the dining halls in Couzens Hall and the East Quad. I don't understand why they haven't constructed a new residence hall in like 50 years but I saw the construction site of the new Mosher-Jordan which is supposed to be open in 2008 i think.

go to steve and barry's. ridiculous prices. 7.50 for t-shirts and shirts. massive selection

Bump .

U-M is investing a lot in the dorms and dining halls right now -- but these projects are really expensive and take a long time. The MoJo renovation and new dining hall will be open in 2008, then Stockwell will be renovated, then the new North Quad dorm and dining hall will open in 2010. Also, there's a new snack bar in Bursley that's really nice.

Daughter and I went to Campus Day today and had a good time. As a recruiting tool,I think they were sort of mediocre, had a much better presentation last fall at a recruiting event, but all in all an informative day. Learned that honors program essays should have been in by March 1 for optimal timing and respoinse by April 1. But director said if the essay is submitted in next few days by email, that it should get the same handling and decision by April 1. They are doing the admissions on a rolling basis, but many essays are reviewed and set aside (deferred) for later handling if they are borderline. The applicant would not know this had happened, just would not get a respoinse within a few weeks of submitting essay. She also said that they love to read the essays, hoping to see student's excitement about learning, and that it is an important piece of the review. They do review the whole file, though, so do not under any circumstances submit the same essay you already wrote for your application.

I am going to be going to a campus day monday and I will report back...
