Campus Day Necessary?

Hi everyone!

I live in Maryland and I want to visit Michigan before I make a decision but the flights are too expensive for the days that campus days are offered. Is it really necessary to go to one of these if I go to one later in the month? Also, are the normal campus tours sufficient enough to get a feel of the school?
Any visiting advice (hotels, where to see, etc) will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Sorry I meant if I go visit on my own later

Hi! I’m actually a tour guide for the university, the campus day tour and the general campus tour are generally the same, however, campus days are centered around admitted students, so you’d learn more about what to expect freshmen year (dining, residence halls), whereas the general campus tours are for prospectives.

Went to both. Pretty standard RA RA school pride stuff for both. Virtually identical. DIdn’t think it was very useful.

My son made his decision after attending campus day because of the time he got to spend in his Department. He met the Dean, sat in actual lectures with other admitted students and professors and met his actual advisor. He knew people the day he started school by connecting with them then. It sealed the deal for him, but he did have a specific major. As for the campus tour, that part is probably the same either way.

Campus Day will have some information sessions in additional to the tour such as housing, financial aid, clubs, etc. However, you should be able to find most of those information online.
