Campus dorms or stenner glen?

I got accepted to Cal Poly and I’ve heard that on campus housing is limited. Where do you think is the better place to live, the campus dorms (probably sierra madre) or stenner glen? I think they both have their pros and cons but I want to see what other people thought.

I want a place that i can get to know a lot of people and be able to easily access the nightlife if you know what I mean. I like that stenner glen is suite style but I don’t know…

I want your input/experience

I can't picture a scenario where I wouldn't encourage a student to live in the dorms for at least their first year. Yes they have their potential issues but the pluses far outweigh the minuses.

You will get to know a lot of people, you will be close to all action on campus as well as classes. Can't tell you how many times I was grateful for the extra sleep living on campus afforded me. Rolling out of bed, into the shower and to class within 20 minutes of waking up was cooooool! Cal Poly does WOW or Week of Welcome for its on campus students and in that week they try very hard to bring all students into the campus culture with really fun activities. I don't know if students living off campus participate in WOW. Another thing, is that living on campus will give you access to information about "nightlife" that may not be as available off campus.

Cal Poly is in the process of building new on-campus housing so the "shortage" is being elevated somewhat. Most students won't know they are in until March so you have an advantage in getting your housing contract in early. I don't think there will be a problem with your getting housing on campus.

Socially: the potential roommate hassles can be annoying but you will have no better guarantee of good roommates with either living option. I made my closest friends in the dorms my first year in college, none of them were my roommates.

Dorms for sure. I'm a freshman at UC Irvine and the first year dorm experience is great. I feel sorry for the kids who live off campus or go to a CC and miss out on it. Sure, the rooms are small, it can get loud, the food isn't great, and you might not like everyone, but it's a total blast.
