Campus Job as part of FA, how does billing work?

I think I heard at the FA session at Previews that students are paid directly. How does that work if the package includes a certain amount ($900) per semester for campus employment? Should we expect the semester bill to not have that $900 covered by financial aid?

Are there any other fees we should expect that aren't covered in "tuition and fees" or "room and board"? The budget adds in books, personal and travel but none of that is included as part of the semester bill I take it.

The only costs Williams bills directly are here ( [Williams College :: Office of Financial Aid - Costs & Financing Options](http://www.williams.edu/admin/finaid/costs/) ).

Work study, if included in your FA package, is just an estimate of the money the student will earn; it’s an anticipated revenue that is expected to offset some of the costs of attendance. So, work study has no effect on how much the student is billed, just as the expected student or family contributions have no effect.

All of the other costs you mention are part of the cost of attendance but are not billed directly by the college. The college recognizes you have to buy books, travel home during vacations and buy toothpaste, and so it builds those costs into its FA offer.

So let’s say the July bill is for $25,000 and the student is receiving a grant of $15,000 and $900 in a campus job, the check needs to be written for $10,000, not $9100? Then the student earns money through the semester and covers their own spending money and what not?

I’m just trying to figure as close as I can to what the actual first bill will be and whether we should do the payment plan.

Dad answered the question.

Work/study is expected to cover spending money. It is not deducted from tuition.

And people on FA can borrow most of their books. I can’t remember the name of the library that gives them out. The constitutes a big savings. They are many copies of texts for kids on FA.

It’s the 1914 Memorial Library.

Sorry for my thick-headedness on this- just wanted to be precise in my planning. My daughter applied ED and we just got the finalized award today. It’s all good.
