campus job earnings

hey can anyone let me know how much one could earn from campus jobs per annum? or maybe some other jobs like tutoring, working in restaurants etc? would this be used in personal expenses? are here savings? i would be glad if someone could give me a rough idea of the figure....thanks :)

Campus jobs are often funded under federal workstudy grants, which means that what you are allowed to earn in a semester depends upon what you qualify for after filling out the FAFSA form. Sometimes schools kick in more if you have a job that they want done and like the way you do it. Workstudy money is expected to help you with personal expenses, although some people save as much as they can to help pay the next semester’s tuition.

If you qualify to tutor, the money that you make for that is usually independent from workstudy funds. My daughter made over $10 an hour, and at her school she was paid to sit in the tutoring department whether she actually had another student being tutored or not.

You can earn as much as you want from an off-campus job, but be careful that you leave yourself enough time for studying and classwork.

Are you an int’l student?

If so, then work-study jobs won’t apply to you.

You need to contact your schools and find out what campus jobs you can have.

At my kids’ school you have to have a Social Security number to have a campus job…but other schools may be different. :)

Yes, I’m an international student.

But I have read and heard that we are given opportunities to work while studying? I know of people who tutored, worked in restaurants/campus cafeterias…what about that?

You can get a work-study job as an international student (although some universities might not allow it). You can only work on-campus and for up to 20 hours a week, though.

I get that kayb92…but my question is that how much could one earn in a year?

Whether or not you’re a part of the federal work study program, you can still get a part-time job on campus or near campus.

You’ll typically be earning somewhere between $7 and $10 an hour. How much you make in a year depends on how many hours you’re willing to work each week while at school. If you worked, say, 20 hours a week, for 36 weeks a year… Looking at something like $5000 for the school year (not including the summer).

It all varies though!

oh okay! that gives a rough idea! thanks pancaked! (nice name btw :stuck_out_tongue: )
