Hey guys im new to the forums but seeing as I plan on applying to schools next fall I have a couple questions to those that have some knowledge on Stevens

How is campus life at this school. Ive heard stevens is a commuter school so the weekends are dead on the campus. Are there usually events going on and stuff to do if i plan on dorming there.

How are the people. I say this just because of what many people say about these schools but are the guys at these places really anti social and stay in their dorms playing video games? And though there are obviously more guys than girls, is it that bad or is there a decent amount.

Lastly if a social, athletic guy wants to have a good time and not have to go knocking on peoples dorm rooms to hang out, is this likely?

I know im making this school sound bad but im just basing my thoughts on reviews i have previously heard. The reason for me looking into this school is for their top notch engineering programs and division 3 athletics.

A large percentage of Stevens students participate in a sport. Hoboken is a great town with a quick path ride to Manhattan.
The campus is small and intimate, so you better like the academic offerings at Stevens.
Some departments are quite large and offer more choices than others. I think ME is one of the stronger majors.

My daughter is happy attending Stevens, but I can’t answer your questions as well as a current student.

I have no idea why people seem to think Stevens is a “commuter” school.

My son graduated from Stevens in May and had a blast. He is now employed as a biomedical engineer and has an apartment in the Hoboken area. He loves it there still.

There is plenty to do on campus, 7 days a week. And no, they don’t hang around their rooms playing video games… there is no more gaming at Stevens than at a school like Cornell or Lehigh (and we have visited those along with a great number of other schools).

Stevens is not a commuter school. Beyond the classroom, there are 150 clubs and organizations on campus, and students easily find groups that fit their interests. The students and administration here work closely together. So if there is a club that isn’t available, students can start their own club! Also, check out the Stevens Entertainment Committee: ([Stevens Entertainment Committee](http://www.stevens.edu/entertainment/cgi-bin/index.php)) It is a student-run organization that plans events for the entire student body to enjoy. There is also so much to do in Hoboken and New York City! Many students like to hang out around town or head across the river to the city on the weekends to explore.

Stevens is diverse. It is possible that you may meet students that seem socially awkward to you - “plays video games and stays in their dorms”, but you’ll also meet students that are also incredibly active in the campus community as well. Perhaps you should swing by Stevens and take a campus tour so you can judge for yourself! Hour-long walking tours are provided every hour from 10AM to 4PM on Monday - Friday. Just walk into the Office of Undergraduate Admissions on the 8th Floor of the Howe Center at Stevens. ([Stevens Institute of Technology: Undergraduate Admissions: Visit Us: Tours](http://www.stevens.edu/sit/admissions/visit/tours.cfm)) Regarding the gender ratio, Stevens is 72% male and 28% female.

Stevens students are very involved in the campus community. It is hard to walk through campus without running into someone you know!

I totally agree with RChung. I’m so glad my son is happy there…he hasn’t been home since the start of class but I enjoy our visits to Hoboken and Stevens to see him.

Count us in as another family who is very happy with Stevens. My son has only been home once since start of classes. He is a soph and has become totally enmeshed in the college community. We just don’t see it as a commuter school at all. There are always kids buzzing around campus…and we visit often. Just love Hoboken and taking the PATH to NYC!

Also, our son had the same reservations you describe above, but after the school-hosted overnight visit he was hooked. A perfect fit.
