can any current stony brook students comment on the campus life and the scoial scene at the school? what's life like on the weekends? im from upstate, so i would be staying on campus during all weekends. im just concerned about the lack of students on campus during weekends and the lack of on-campus activities.

also, how accessible is nyc from stony brook? is it easy to get to the city without a car and how long does it take? do u think having a car is useful? do students usually travel to the city on weekends and how often do students go there?

Campus life?.....weekend it's pretty quiet. Some people stay on campus...Activities, there's not much to do on the weekend, but there are shows and other performances.

It's a 2 hour ride of LIRR to the city....(lets say penn station) If you have a car that will be great. Some people who live as close as in queens will go back on weekend. How often I'm not sure. I don't go home much.

Hey, the Gym Class Heroes are on campus tonight! Like any campus, the more active you are, and the more open to new things you are, the more you'll find. You definitely have to get out of your room and get involved, because the activities won't find you.

Freshman (officially) can't have cars on campus -- although I know freshmen who do, so there are loopholes. :)

So tell us the loopholes....

if you have a job or have medical reasons then you are allowed to have a car freshman year.

(Thanks Dan!)

I don't think I'm supposed to tell you all the loopholes. But students love to help each other out with loopholes. (Actually, those are the two official loopholes; I'm sure there are others.)
