I am hoping for some input from current students or recent grads. My daughter got accepted yesterday and is certainly pleased and grateful. The problem is that according to all the insider guides, Dartmouth is great if you are athletic and/or like to drink. My daughter is/likes neither.

I have a feeling that Dartmouth is big enough to have all sorts of people with lots of different interests, and she'll just have to find the crowd that suits her.

Anyone have any insights on this? Any recommendations on ways to gain a peek into life at Dartmouth?

Hey, yeah, the whole idea that all Dartmouth students are really athletic and into drinking really isn’t true. While there are people who drink a lot and there are people who are athletic, there are just as many if not more who aren’t into sports or drinking. It’s a very diverse group of kids (just like at all the other Ivy League schools) and the campus culture encourages people with different interests and personalities to interact and form relationships.
I was a kid who drank and partied a fair amount at the College and yet some of my best friends were guys who weren’t really interested in drinking or partying. Moreover, I was an athlete and yet a large number of my friends didn’t even play club sports (in fact, I can think of two of my really good friends who barely made it out of school with the three required P.E. credits).
Just my two cents, but if my four years were any indication, your daughter has nothing to be worried about.

My S is a '15 and is certainly not the stereotypical athlete/frat bro. And he’s not an outdoors enthusiast either. He was housed with 2 guys like that though and had a positive experience. The student body is incredibly diverse and the isolated location keeps the social scene predominantly on campus. My S has met so many amazing, talented kids from all walks of life. I’m quite sure your D will find her niche and have a great experience!
