Is this campus becoming more residential or is UMBC still just a commuter school with no change of that in sight? I got accepted here and would like to know.

UMBC is mostly a commuter school still, however, as a resident here I would say that its not necessarily boring, just dull. It depends if you actually look for stuff to do. Getting involved in our clubs, sports, and greek life/ student orgs will guarantee you a much better time. The weekends are still relatively boring because most people go home, but if you get involved then you will always find a party or have something to do. UMBC is more academically focused rather than student life focused. But like most colleges, UMBC has its ups and downs, and your experience here will be what you make of it.

I come from a school where everyone does sports or music, and I’m hoping for a more club- and organization -oriented school. So, how many students actually participate in such activities as clubs, organizations, greek life, community service, etc.? In other words, is it an active student body?
