Does Northeastern have a campus life? I've read that a lot of people move out the dorms after their freshmen year and, because of the co-op program, there isn't much of a campus life. IS THIS TRUE????

No, it’s not true. I haven’t experienced that campus life is negatively impacted by co-op or people living off campus.

In terms of co-op: yes, people are busy all day when they’re on co-op, but campus organizations and activities are geared up for this. There are things scheduled for weekends, and if you can’t participate in an evening club one semester because of a longer commute, that’s fine - you just hop back in the next semester and everyone’s happy to see you.

In terms of housing: it’s the case at most schools that people start to move off campus after their first couple of years. It’s hard to blame them, when you have more freedom and lower rent off campus. But Northeastern currently requires students to live on campus for their first 2 years, and starting this year, they are guaranteeing housing to incoming students for all 5 years. But even when people do move off campus, it’s not like they are cutting themselves out of campus life. A lot of people still live really close to campus, in the symphony, longwood, or mission hill areas. I live off campus, but I’m only about a mile away. I’m still involved in everything that I was while on campus. I just eat in the student center for more meals now instead of popping back to my dorm for lunch.
