Campus on the mind

UCLA has like the first or second best college town in the whole nation! Go Westwood!

I don't mean to hijack, but I applied to USC instead of UCLA. USC-bashing aside, can you guys give me your insights on which you would choose? Berkeley or USC? Thanks. :)

^^^
HAHA! thats just awesome Grey... in that scenario, you know what I'd say.. let's go Bears!

GO BRUINS!

don't know much about USC.
my friends who go there love it.
the parties are usually fun, but i don't really dig the whole frat thing, which seems to be blown up at USC.
living downtown is kind of cool.
lots of old bars / hang outs.. cool things always happening (like drugs busts and general acts of violence... kids getting hit & run to death, etc).

but berkeley is just... well... it' berkeley.

my friend goes to usc, all i have to say is the area is horrible and she can hear gun shots constantly :-/ so i'll say berkeley on strictly safety factors

bah... downtown isn't so bad.
my ex lived on 6th and spring, right in the center of the fashion district.. a step down from where USC is. you might not be sheltered by the feel-good comforts of suburbia, but it's not like you leave the house feeling threatened. i wouldn't recommend that women wander around alone, or that really anybody walk alone after 11pm, but so long as you take the necessary precautions, you're in good shape.

also, a lot of people think they're hearing gun shots when engines backfire. with the surrounding buildings, the sound is amplified and can sound a lot like a gun shot. poorer neighborhoods = crappy cars = rich white kids get scurred.

no it's definetely gun shots followed by sirens.

fine.
i'm just trying to say that the danger is exaggerated.

USC campus is nice, but I wasn't too fond of the neighborhood.
I only saw it at night, so my opinion might not be the most objective.
Grey, why didn't you apply to both UCLA and USC? that sucks if you had to make a choice of one or the other...

speaking of private campuses,

Apart from the d0uches that go there, I love the campus of Stanford. To me it's like the hybrid of an Ivy League and a UC. And the part of Palo Alto that it's in is really nice.

South central is two blocks away, so yeah I believe you sweetnezz, but I grew up in a questionable part of LA so if wealthy suburban kids can cope, then so can I. Can anyone else chime in on something that doesn't include the bad neighborhood?

652316541, I actually did have to choose between the two. I had pre-reqs/scheduling conflicts. I never really wanted to go to UCLA anyway. But I'm afraid of having to choose between Berkeley and USC.

the thing i really can't stand about USC, even worse than the neighborhood, is the place that they decided to build it.
i mean, why would anyone plant such a 'great' college in a cesspool of poverty and violence?

To rub it in the faces of the poor, obviously.

Pick USC. Stay in SoCal.

well i'd have to say that every one of my friends friends at usc is a total stuck up ***** haha if you're interested in finding some girls that might be a downfall, but then again girls at berkeley don't like to shave so...

I really do hate you pinkerfloyd for making me feel down and cry all the time

pinkerfloyd and anchor, USC was built in 1880. Needless to say, the place wasn't a cesspool of poverty and violence back then. Think about it for a second.

grey, i think that one went over your head.

My friend got his BMW emblem jacked while parked outside of USC.

woot

You guys aren't helpful. Never mind.

UCLA, as it's more moderate, balanced, and centerist.

Even though both of the locations are spectacular, in my opinion.

Although if someone is majoring in Baby Seal Protection, I guess they'd want the views UCB has to offer.
