I heard from a friend that there were some white supremacist signs posted around the campus. Does anyone know what the school do about this. How safe is Bates campus for non-whites?
Very safe.
As far as I can tell from my daughter everyone recognized that particular incident for what it was, an attempt to stir something up. Instead people took down the signs, ignored it and got on with life. The college sent out a school-wide email at the time but I don’t know what it said.

A couple of years ago there was an incident in which Bates security seemed to be targeting an African American student. The school investigated, held meetings with student and administration, and removed the Head of Security, bringing in a new Head, an African American man named Douglass Morency, who has proven to be immensely popular. He sometimes has lunch with students.
@JS9050 that was an isolated incident and no one took it seriously. My daughter’s friends include Africans and African Americans who were unconcerned.
There was an unrelated attempt to stir something up during the 2018 elections and it just made Bates students more resolved to go out and vote in force. The students simply don’t tolerate that kind of nonsense.
