Hello all,

I'm applying to Washu RD for this year. I haven't visited so just wondering, how's the campus? Is it too small? Is it a fun place to be? Pretty? etc.

I really like the campus myself. From one corner of campus to the other, it’s roughly a 15 minute walk from one corner of campus to the opposite, depending on how quickly you walk. I think it’s plenty big, personally. It’s pretty picturesque; there’s plenty plenty of grass, trees, and flowers, and all* the buildings are from some very nice Missouri granite. The campus being fun or not is up to what you make of it, haha. The campus was probably half of the reason I applied ED there.

WUSTL’s main campus consists of gothic buildings in quads that progressively get larger. The tour guide says the students call it Hogwarts and that is an apt description. After the largest quad are the athletic facilities. Across the street to one side are the professional schools and the dorms are about a quarter of a mile away and very spacious and opulent (each dorm has a suite comparable to some schools’ student center).

WUSTL’s best feature however is its location, with almost anything a college students could want within walking distance. To one side is one of the largest parks in the US. Another side features a bohemian area for dining and shopping. The third side has museums and the zoo (all of which are free). While the last side, has a mall with movie theatre and other big box stores (far enough away so does not spoil campus environment).

^ Hahaha, where’d you copy that one from? Anyways, it fits, even if a bit verbose :)

I’m pretty sure that literally no one calls Wash U Hogwarts. Also, the architecture is Collegiate Gothic.

That sounds awesome! I really hope I can visit sometime.

I think the campus is great.

Super helpful post of the day by me.

You all have some long legs if Danforth/Shepley/Wheeler to Green Hall can be traversed in 15 minutes…

Maybe I’m just old and walk slow.

Eh, I walk faster than average, so that’s certainly possible. I wouldn’t say any more than 20 minutes though, right?

Depending on the speed you’re walking, I’d say Danforth/Shepley/Wheeler to Green could possibly take more than 20 minutes. But it doesn’t have to take that long.

Students tend to refer to “campus” as the actual academic campus and not the South 40 or Village where students live. Using that term, it certainly doesn’t take any more than 15 minutes to walk from one place on campus to another. (e.g. AC/Seigle to Green)

Does muckdogs go to WashU? Haha.

The zoo and museum are in the Park.
The “loop” is about a 10 minute walk off campus (described as dining and shopping).
You really can’t walk to the Mall - you can take the Metro there for free.

The campus is great. The South40 (Resident Halls) are awesome.
WashU’s rep for a great campus and the best food are justified.

My longest walk to class from my dorm (Thomas Elliot) was 15 minutes last semester.
