Campus Storage or Dorm2Dorm

I've read previous posts on summer storage but would like more inputs or opinions on summer storage. s has got fliers on both Campus Storage and Dorm2Dorm. Does anyone have experience with either or is planning to make a decision on choosing one over the other?

nobody on cc needs to store that stuff in the summer?

I wish I could offer advice- I live nearby, so I’ve never needed to store anything.

thanks Nikara =)

I did college boxes last year… it ended up being 300 dollars or something I think for 4 large over sized boxes (i over stuffed it so they charged me more). They only do free campus delivery (or they did last year) so if you live on non school housing… they’ll charge you delivery fees

uyulove, what do you mean by “college boxes”? Do you remember the company’s name? Is it Campus Storage? What are you going to use this year?

college boxes is what the company is called.

I’m using American Storage or whatever its called across UPC and DMV this year. They are charging me 150 for 5x10 space which I’ll split with someone.

HEY if you guys need storage (5x5 for each person!) send me a msg! It’s going to be 75 dollars for the entire summer if we split it although it usually costs like 160-200 for 5x5!

uyulove, too bad my s already signed up for campus storage, and it’s going to cost me like $300 for the summer. Maybe next year…

uyulove, you have to transfer your boxes over yourself, right?

uyulove, Are you sure that’s not the monthly rate? I always rented the same 5x10 unit for the summer, and last year I believe it was like $118 per month (with the first month being free). I just remember 3 months of rent for the summer being over $300. I’m surprised they’ve changed their rates that much.

No I’m pretty sure this is the entire summer price… I get half off 3 months and the first month is 20 dollars. They are also giving me 5x10 for 5x5 price.

Do you work for or handle marketing for Scholar Storage? You have 5 posts to date on 5 threads all of which are about Scholar Storage.
Has anyone else used this company or is anyone else familar with this product?

My daughter said she rented a climate controlled space for $35 per month. We need to drop it off ourselves but she still had her move-in boxes.

Had a bad experience with Campus Storage. VERY expensive for what was provided.

Find a friend or two and share a 5x5 storage unit at the self-storage place across the freeway.

Long story short, this company capitalizes and exploits the naivety of college students. DO NOT LET THEM RIP YOU OFF. My friend is being charged 900$ for storing 10 medium sized boxes this summer.

This company is terrible. It is a rip off. They charge you prices that are significantly higher than those advertised on the website. For instance, you do not find out how much you will be paying ($350 for 3 medium size boxes for me) until the storage people have finished packing your things and you are seconds away from signing the contract. On the invoice, the individual charges are not listed; only the total price. The first month’s fee $50 higher than what I expected from the pricing listed on the website; the only explanation given was “packing supplies and moving fees” which should not cost so much. THE WORST PART is that once you store your items with them, there is no way to get your items back until the end of the summer (at least 3-4 months) unless you want to pay a “$200 fee,” according to the extremely rude and unhelpful employees I spoke with over the phone.

If you try to cancel before the storage company takes your stuff, they will charge you $50 regardless of how far in advance you cancel. Five of my friends chose another company where they stored enough items for 5 people–including a futon, 10 boxes, 3 mini fridges–a large amount of items that would have cost over $2000 with Campus Storage, considering the friend I mentioned at the top of this review is paying $900 for 10 boxes with Campus Storage. By NOT using Campus Storage, each of my 5 friends are only paying $55 for the entire summer.

***Bottom line: DO NOT USE CAMPUS STORAGE!!! They are a rip off. You will feel like a fool once they charge you exorbitant prices, and you have absolutely no way to get your items back for AT LEAST four months…while you pay hundreds of dollars each month in order to let these people take advantage of you.
