Campus Tour?

I am a high school senior from Texas, and I will be attending a campus tour of the U of A next week and I’m not quite sure what to expect. I have attended a couple other tours of schools here in Texas (A&M and UT). Has anyone here ever toured campus? Are there any certain things I should see when the tour is over? I’m staying for an extra day to check out Fayetville with my mother, so we’ll have time to look around at anything extra we didn’t see on the tour. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Hi there! I’m a freshman at the UofA, and I have toured the campus numerous times, taken summer courses, and went to many events sponsored by the UofA.

The one thing I will tell you right off the bat is that you will develop some serious leg muscle while you’re there! The campus is nicknamed “The Hill” for a reason–because it seems like (and it very well is) on a hill. Don’t worry, it’s nothing strenuous.

I would advise you stop by the bookstore on Garland Ave, see what they have to offer, pick up some souvenirs. I’m not sure if they will take you on a tour of the dorms. When I went on my campus visit, we didn’t get to go on a dorm tour because there were classes going on at the time, but you may be able to now (even though summer classes are in session).

It’s a beautiful campus situated in a beautiful place.

Hope to see you on campus soon!

I’m also from Texas and going for my second visit next week too. I’m a girl so we also visited the bookstore, the boutique next door to it, the on-campus walmart and their mall which is about a 10 minute drive from the campus. Besides the official walking tour we drove and walked around the campus to check out the football stadium, sorority row, went inside the library and ate dinner on Dickson Street. They only let everyone in to see two dorms, the super expensive Maple Hill and the older Futrall, but we wandered around outside the other buildings too just to get a feel for them. I went in April so there were lots of students walking around and I think next week will mostly be kids like us. The campus is very nice and is more similar to A&M than UT. I like it because it has half the students of those schools.

Thanks a lot for the feedback! I think I am set up to tour a dorm, Maple Hill East if I remember correctly. I doubt I’d stay there since there are cheaper options, but it was the only one we could secure. I also like U of A since it is smaller too, UT is so crowded! I’ll be sure to check out the bookstore and the other mentioned buildings. Thanks again!

Wow, I’m also from Texas and interested in the University of Arkansas. For those of you who have toured the campus, how does it compare to UT and A&M?

I’ve visited both UT and A&M. I did not like UT at all because the campus is in the middle of downtown Austin. A&M is nice. I like Arkansas because it’s only 25,000 students compared to over 50,000 for the Texas schools. They said about 30% of students are from Texas. The campus is very hilly, with lots of trees and scenic views. It reminds me a little of the Texas State campus, if you’ve been there. They are similar to the Aggies in their love of school and football. I also like that they offer Texans in-state tuition. One of the admission people told us that Arkansas will have fewer 300+ size classes than those schools too. Freshman classes will be a lot smaller and that’s important to me. Since it’s their flagship school they get a lot of donation money and internship opportunities from companies like Walmart, Tyson and JB Hunt.

As for Maple Hill, it’s new and very nice. But I would look at Humphreys and Yocum as they are cheaper and closer to the center of the campus. We walked around those and they have a cool view too. Right now, I’m going to apply to 4-5 schools and figure out what to do after that. But I really liked Arkansas so that’s why I’m going back again.

Are any of you going to the razorback 101 event thing they are having. It’s like an admissions thing on Friday. I’ve already been to 2 campus tours here, and I just absolutely love the UofA! I live about 40 minutes from Fayetteville and have pretty much always wanted to go to this school. Anyways, I was just wondering if any of you would be there at razorback 101.

Is Razorback 101 only this Friday?

No, there are other dates and also other types of events throughout the year. I’ve also been to ready razorback. Go here for more information:
