Campus Tours

I will be applying to UA from Massachusetts for Fall 2011 and will be visiting UA in June for a campus tour. I was wondering the best way to tour the campus. I have qualified for the Honors College, so I wasn’t sure if there was a special Honors tour and whether I would qualify until I was officially admitted to the program. I have also read about the Bama Bound (Alumni) tour. I’m also thinking the regular tour might be best as it will be less sanitized, but I also want to see the honors dorms.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the best way to see the campus? I’m coming a long way and want to make the most of my visit.

Thank you for your help.

Here’s what to do! :)

First schedule a campus tour. I wouldn’t bother with scheduling the extra info session because the info you get during the info session is pretty much what you’d get on CC.

Then, contact Jami Gates at Honors, tell her:

1) your campus tour time (so she can set stuff up around it)
2) your intended major (so she can set up appt with dept people)
3) your stats (so that she knows that you’ll be an honors app)
4) your address/phone
5) you’d like a tour of honors housing, to meet with Dr. Sharpe, and anything else she thinks would be a good idea.

If you’re going to be a science or engineering major, ask to also tour Shelby and the science and engineering complex.

What is your likely major?

We are visiting UA in June from Illinois. M2CK instructions are what we have done to register for our visit. We registered online for the Campus Tour and in the Comments box wrote that our S who has Presidential Scholars scores, GPA, would also like to speak to the Honors Department and the Engineering Department (specifically Materials Eng). We received an email confirmation of the Campus Tour date and time and instructions to contact Honors at 205-348-5500 and Engineering at 205-348-1596. We spoke to Jami
Gates (Honors) and explained what we were interested in doing and she is setting everything up and will be contacting us with the itinerary within the week. She said we have no need to contact Engineering as she will take care of that also. Very easy to deal with all around.

I should have included the contact info…

Thank you for your valuable insights. I will follow your excellent advice. BTW, my expected major is Business.
