Campus Transport

I'm going to be living in Rieber Vista and all three of my classes are located on the opposite side of campus at Melnitz Hall. Originally I figured a bike would be the best way to go but my parents are trying to find alternatives. I was trying to do some research on the shuttles around campus and I got really confused.
How might I get from the west side of campus to the east side? Would the shuttles be able to take me to those locations? And I'd of course be willing to walk a bit of a distance but I really want to avoid walking almost 4 miles every day.

The vast majority of people walk. Unless you have some sort of physical disability, it’s really not that difficult, and the exercise is good for you. Some people ride bikes, but the hilly layout of the campus makes it rather difficult to do so. More practical alternatives to bikes include scooters and longboards; these are more mobile and can be carried up stairs.

There aren’t any shuttles between the Hill and classes.

There’s a disability shuttle that stops at rieber court and goes to campus. But that’s not really an option for the OP.

There’s a shuttle outside Melnitz that leaves at 1pm and takes you to Hedrick. I don’t know the rest of its schedule but I’m sure it’s online somewhere. I know that shuttle is for anyone and my friend and I used it once when we were too tired to walk back. lol.

The Hutt is right; most residents of the Hill walk, although many do have skateboards and scooters. (I recommend a Xootr http://www.xootr.com/kick-scooter_mg.html;</a> I love mine. It saved me SO much time.) Note: Sometimes a bike comes in handy, especially if you’re whipping between the Hill and South Campus, or destinations off campus.

There is a shuttle that operates between North Campus – Macgowan Hall, to be exact – and Hedrick Hall during lunch time. It runs between 11:30am and 2 and leaves from Magowan every 30 minutes. Luckily, UCLA Transportation is launching a new GPS system that allows people to find out the approximate arrival time of the next shuttle by text, smartphone, or internet for all of its routes, including the Northwest Shuttle. Here’s more info: <a href=“ucla.in - Create shortened links to UCLA web pages”>ucla.in - Create shortened links to UCLA web pages;

BruinBus (the official new name of the shuttle bus system) has one route that you might find useful for moving between the north and south campus. It’s called the Campus Express.
Meh thought I would ask
Maybe I should learn to longboard

Do a lot of students longboard/skateboard? I want to take mine but I hear you can get ticketed (?).

for those of you who take bikes, how do you bring your bike up the hill to, say, humanities? do you take it up the handicap slope on election walk?

The dismount policy is annoying, but as long as the police isn’t around you are free to skate and bike down bruinwalk.
