Campus Visit Logistics: travel & Hotels

My S was accepted EA and we'll be visiting the campus in March. Any recommendations on which hotel to stay at? Also, we see that Carlisle is about 16 miles from Harrisburg (where the Airport and Amtrak are located). If my S was a student at Dickinson without a car, how would he get back and forth between the campus and Harrisburg?

If your question is about getting to the airport, I understand that the school runs shuttle buses during holiday periods. As far as other times, that's a perfect question to ask the admissions office, which you could do by an email. They have been very responsive to all my questions so far. My D was admitted ED, and she is looking forward to next year.

As far as hotels, the Dickinson website recommends several, but an easy way to compare prices and locations is on Mapquest (my apologies if you knew this already); plug in Dickinson as the location, and then use the "what's nearby" feature to find hotels; it will show the locations on a map and also give you the distance in mileage from the school.

Congrats to all who are accepted! My D is a sophomore, and she absolutely LOVES her college! The closest hotel that I know of is the Comfort Suites (walking distance from campus), although there are several others in the area. As the other posters said, the Dickinson website has helpful info. Here is the address for the Comfort Suites: http://www.comfortsuitescarlisle.com/

Thanks to:

dg5052 on the shuttle bus info.

Heididoe on the hotel info. The hotel you suggested looks like one that meets our selection criteria.

There are quite a few hotels in Carlisle within 3 miles of campus. We've been the the Comfort Suites hotel which, as Heididoe says, is only a couple blocks from the admissions office. We stayed at the Hampton Inn a couple miles north of town the last time we visited, which was fine and had a great price. If you are on a budget you might want to do a search through kayak.com to see if there are any deals you can take advantage of.

We have always stayed at the Comfort Suites downtown (D is a senior). We love that we can walk to campus, and the rooms and service are great. It may not be the cheapest, but they do give you a discount if you tell them you are visiting Dickinson.
I know that there are shuttle busses to the train and airport in Harrisburg around holidays that students sign up for in advance. My daughter has given lots of friends rides, so I'm sure you can always find someone with a car. My older son went to Elizabethtown, and there you could call the campus security to give you a ride to the train station!

Does anyone have any experience with the Carlisle House B&B? This is NOT to be confused with the Carlisle Hotel. We have made reservations at the Carlisle House and the owner sounds lovely--but I would be curious to hear about any first hand knowledge.

I also definitly recommend comfort suites! my mom and i stayed there during a visit, and it was awesome! we could easily walk to the hotel, and it was right downtown with easy access to wonderful shops and historic sights. Also, the best coffee and brownies ever are right next door!
