Campus visit

Visiting UArts in a few weeks (cant make the open house). Was wondering if anyone could recommend a hotel close by that is not to $$$$$$.
Very excited to see the campus and meet students / staff. I think it is my son’s first choice, so I hope all goes well

The Doubletree Hotel at Broad and Locust Sts is right in the heart of the UArts’ campus and the Theater District. They offer a discount to families visiting UArts so make sure to ask for it. It is also in a great location to explore a load of excellent restaurants that are local and student favorites. I’ve posted recommendations on some other UArts threads - but I can’t remember where :). If you can’t find 'em, let me know and I’ll be glad to provide a list.

We always stay at the Doubletree also, and love the proximity to everything Uarts. They do have a reduced rate for Uarts students. It is still a little pricey, however. My husband stayed at the Sheridan farther away, and it was cheaper, but he felt that being so far away was a drawback. Good luck choosing.

There is a Holiday Inn Express around 13th and Walnut St that may be a little cheaper. It is within easy walking distance.

Purple9, did you make it to Philly for the visit to UArts? You probably did since your son decided to go there. Did you enjoy it? We were so pleasantly surprised at the whole place. It’s got such positive energy and vibes!

YES!!! We were there last Thursday. Dr. Raines scheduled a full day for him which included sitting in on three classes and seeing the production of Ilyria. Seeing the Merriam theater and experiencing the senior musical theater class SOLD HIM!!! The students were warm and friendly as was the faculty. He was a bit intimidated after seeing the talent, but that is a good thing for him to feeling :). I am a little worried about the downtown campus / no meal plan thing, but I am sure it will work out.
Thanks for asking!!!

Does anyone know when the last day of school is for THIS year. I’ve never been and I wanted to be able to do a tour before school was out because I’m not sure if anyone is there to do it during the summer

All classes end on Monday May 3. Juries, evals and finals occur for about 10 days thereafter. The MT program does not have summer session classes. There is a 4 week MT program for high school juniors and seniors taught by the BFA faculty with T.A.'s who are BFA seniors and a couple of recent MT graduates, so there is an opportunity to at least see some of the faculty in action and chat with a couple of students if you choose to visit during the summer MT program.

Purple9, don’t worry about the downtown campus and lack of a meal plan. The area where UArts is located is safe and with the exercise of some common sense, students do not have safety concerns. In fact, the area is a dynamic, exciting environment for students with all sorts of cultural and social activities going on throughout the evening into the night on virtually any day of the week. As far as a meal plan is concerned, there is such an abundance of food courts, deli’s, cafes, sandwich shops and restaurants in the area that it is like have a cash based meal plan. Also, students can go to the UArts Cantina (cash based) or food shop at area supermarkets. I’ve yet to see a starving UArts student  . Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

ok Thankyou. So there is no way to just have a tour after May 3rd or the 10 days afterward. I dont finish school until June 3rd. And I saw tours are only during the weekend

My suggestion is that you call the office for the Brind School of Theater Arts and ask directly whether you can be accommodated. Very often arrangements can be made that are different than what’s on the website or what’s offered through the admissions office.

I think if you contact the Admissions office, they can arrange something for you. They did that for us, although come to think of it that was in April. My D’s almost finished her sophomore year and she’s had an breakthrough year, she loves studying Meissner and Savi, not to mention all the other classes she’s has this year, but acting studio is her favorite this year. It is turning out to be even better than she expected, so I wish you best of luck.
