is it me or does anyone else appreciate the ohio u campus? its very pretty least from what i can tell anyone have views or opinions on it?

My daughter and I think it is the prettiest campus we have visited. She loves it. You should go there in April when all the trees are in bloom. It's the quitessential college campus with all those beautiful, old buildings and the lovely greens as well.

i am just waiting on a response from them i've heard negative things about the school have you heard anything not negative?

Sure I have heard "not negative" things! More importantly, we have visited the campus three times and spent time with deans, instructors, other students, etc. Just remember that ALL COLLEGES have their negative and positive qualities, and it's up to you to investigate the truth in those rumors. At OU, they are known as a party school. But do you know of any college, other than those with dry campuses, that could not have that reputation? The reason they have that rep is probably due to their huge Halloween street party each year. If you're not into partying, there are others that are like you. At OU, they have all types of dorm arrangements that work for various lifestyles, including substance free dorms.

Here's the campus, in a 2005 video:

http://www.ohio.edu/weru/video1/

We too thought it was THE perfect campus. Beautiful, not too small, not too large, and lots of happy, friendly students.

Also check out some photos:

digmedia, could you comment about your S's social experiences at OU. If he is not much of a partier, could you comment on his experiences. Do you know if things are more condusive to studying in the Honors dorm or are there any sub free dorms, would you S know anything about these.

My D is a little reluctant to consider OU with the party rep that it has. She is a non-partier in HS and wants to find like minded people in college. She's also looking at engineering so she would want a dorm that is a little more geared to academics.

deb - sent you a PM

Thanks, I appreciate it.

that was a great video...i applied i'm waiting to hear they told me not next wednesday but perhaps the weekend of that week...its definently in my top 3...the pictures make it seem beautiful...only way to know is to see it in person thanks alot digi and ohio mom

deb922:

I'm a prospective student for OU, and I thought I could comment on the fears about OU being a party school. All throughout middle and high school I was very much involved with the drug, alcohol, and tobacco prevention programs. It stands to reason that I really wanted to go to a college where I could have freedom from those things. I feel that OU can offer me that kind of freedom in abundance. I've visited campus three times, and slept over in a dorm, and I know that there are plenty of kids there who advocate a sub-free life. Those same kids also have flourishing social lives. I agree, that honors dorms are probably where you will see more of this mentality. Is your D considering rooming in an honors dorm?

One of the best things about a larger university is that there is a lot of diversity and a student can easily find "like-minded" friends. HOWEVER, being stuck with a roommate or in a dorm hall of partiers for a quarter or longer can be hellish. So think carefully about the dorm and select accordingly.
