I know the campus is tiny, but how is the campus overall? Nice builidings? Good grass areas? Cool looking quads? Or the opposite?

Lots of trees and gardens. The buildings are very nice. I love the architecture. There are grassy areas, and little ponds and benches. It’s beautiful. It’s not what you would expect in an urban college, although it’s literally in the middle of the city. When they say “urban oasis”, they mean it!

We’re gonna go visit March 22. Our S has been accepted and is considering going there (on his list of choices). We have visited larger campus and he wants to visit a smaller school to compare. Will post a review when we return. Looks very nice from the pictures. =)

I get the feeling that the city of Seattle becomes a big part of the college experience for Seattle U students. The campus IS nice–Ciscoe Morris, a local gardening celebrity, was groundskeeper for years and turned it into an organic gem. But, at 45 acres it is far and away the smallest our family has visited. What does everyone think–is it a haven for those who want the urban experience as part of their education? Might the attractions of the city be too tempting at times?

You’re definitely right in saying that the city is a huge part of the SU experience. The city is an asset and an extension of my campus. But I do really like this campus and it is a part of why I chose this school. I really prefer it to being in a campus the size of a small town, or to imposing too much on the surrounding neighborhoods–large campuses (for me, at least) can get to feeling like a bubble, plus when you walk the lower mall of Seattle U, odds are you’re going to pass someone you know. It’s a nice feeling, and you don’t have to go too far to get what you need.
I wouldn’t call it a haven, personally, because that feels like it implies the surrounding area as someplace I don’t want to be, and I wouldn’t say the attractions of the city are “too” tempting for a similar reason. But correct me if I’m missing the real question you mean to ask…?

How much do Seattle U students spend time in and around Capitol Hill? When you say they are ‘involved in the city’ does that mean beyond the surrounding neighborhood and downtown or is it extended to the city as a whole?
