Campuses with a waterfront/beach

connecticut college

Bemidji State University in Bemidji MN, right on Lake Bemidji and an absolutely beautiful campus. And, as I have posted before, free parking in the winter, because you can park right on the lake. What other campus has that perk? ;)

At about 15 square miles Lake Mendota is larger than several of the Finger Lakes.

OP said the larger of the Finger Lakes. Cayuga, which Cornell overlooks, and Seneca are each over 100 square miles.

Northwestern is on the lakefront and has a very small beach. It has a lagoon too. :)

I'd rather have two miles of frontage on a good sized lake than "overlook" one that is larger. At the UW Union you can pick-up a sailboat or windsurfer and be out on the water in a minute.
Lake Mendota is listed in the International Lake Directory as one of the major US lakes.

not the point--I enjoy Lake Mendota as well and never claimed anything other than that, to the OP, size matters

btw, although Cornell only commands a view of Cayuga, it is easily accessible and has world class sailing, spawning many US Olympians

Kingsborough Community College (Manhattan Beach, NY)

redcrimblue,

How far is the lake from campus? Can you "overlook" from large part of the campus or very limited area of the campus. Do you see just a part of the lake? Are there tall trees standing in between that block part of the view?

The last time Cornell had someone on the Olympics sailing team is 1976.

conn coll has had olympic level athletes in sailing and crew... :)
