So right now I am taking general chemistry at Ohio State and I am having a hard time. So far we have only had lab grades and I have averages a 77% for my first 3 labs. Im really concerned that if I do not do well in this class that medical schools will just laugh at me.

My professor always tells us gen chem sucks and that she got a C in it and now she had a PhD and to not worry about it.

I just dont know why I am not doing well on the lab reports if I follow the rubric exactly like it says?

You might consider doing a few things. First is to go to spend time analyzing what you’re doing wrong. Did you not understand something, not answer something sufficiently, or did you not follow a procedure correctly? After this, go to your professor’s office hours and go over how to improve. (Do not expect that just showing up will change a grade.) You might need to see your TA instead.

My guess is that you’re a freshman and this is an early test to see if you can pull yourself together, do what you need, and make the grade. I recall one time recently, when my DS struggled with an insanely hard course that he just studied, studied, and studied some more. He was getting low grades, but ultimately ended up with an A because he didn’t give up. It may sound crazy, but the information is in there if you’re willing to put in the time to really learn it.

You might also want to consider: study groups or a tutor to help. Evaluate your grade as you approach the time when you can withdraw, which may be your last ditch effort to stop the drop, but you need to take the course eventually.

It doesnt seem like my TA knows exactly what he is doing. I emailed him and he said that my the first ones I missed points because I didnt record in my lab notebook properly. I am not having problems in the lecture as much as I am in the exams.

I sure hope not. I’d hate for my C in orgo freshman year to impact me now that I’m a 4th year MD/PhD student.

See Chrizzly, even IWBB has a C and made it to med school. Figuring out procedure can be as tricky as gaining knowledge. Are you struggling lab reports or in exams? Those are two separate things.
