Can a Carnegie Mellon student talk to me about CMU?

Hello,

I am applying to the Mellon College of Science as a tentative physics major.

Can a current or former CMU student talk to me about the school? I find that specific details are extremely useful in writing the supplemental essays.

Bonus if you're also a Mellon College of Science student, or a physics major, too.

I'm looking for answers to questions like:
- What is the student community like? How would you describe the culture?
- What are classes like? Are there any cool things specific to CMU going on in classes?
- Are there any physics-specific initiatives going on there? i.e. special labs, professors, programs, opportunities
- What is the approach to learning at CMU? Are the professors accessible? What is the philosophy of their learning?

And any other details you think are worth mentioning.
