can a freshman live in an off campus apartment?

I have heard mixed answers on this. anyone know the official answer?

Yes, absolutely. There is no requirement to live on campus (unless you are in the Corps).

there is no requirement at A&M to live on campus at anytime.
Corps - yes - but even then, there are married corps boys that do not live on campus… My husband was one ;)

unless you are a cadet, or have a specific scholarship (ex. regent’s) you may live off campus freshman year, the school doesn’t mandate you stay on campus freshman year like other schools unless you are in one of the two situations above

Well technically you don’t have to live at dorms anywhere you go first year if you declare it can harm your health. (asthma etc)

Of course you can, but you won’t meet as many freshmen since most of them DO live there.

Also, pardon my mom-ness, even if you don’t live in the dorms PLEASE have a bacterial meningitis vaccination before starting school. All the on-campus kids are required to have it. Every year someone needlessly dies because the didn’t get it. This just happened and it is SO sad and SO easily avoidable.

AllThisIsNewToMe - not entirely true… you might be very surprised at the numbers of freshmen that do not live on campus. Living on campus is not the only way to meet your classmates. My daughter didn’t live on campus her freshman year.

totally agree with your mom-ness - get the bacterial meningitis vaccination!
