Can a good SAT II replace/sub-in for an ok SAT I subscore?

I'm not posting all my stats, but it would help to know that I'm looking at ivies/just-below ivies (Duke, JHU, UVA, etc.) and I am 1/280 in the #1 high school in WV. My SAT's roll as follows: 710M, 750CR, and 800W. A 2260 isn't bad, but I'm uncertain of the math score....I'm obviously not going to stand much of a chance.

Cut to the chase: I don't want to take the SAT again. Hypothetically, if I could pull of a 750+ on Math I and Math II on the SAT Subject Tests (combined with a 5 in Calc A/B and a 33 on the ACT that I just got a couple weeks ago), would that substitute well/at-all for the lack-luster math score or should I just go for the whole thing all over again?

Brutal honesty is encouraged.

I’ve heard from my Pre-calc teacher that a good sat II score for Math 2 can replace a decent score in the SATs, and I stand by his judgment. However, I am not 100% sure of this. One thing I do know is that you don’t need to take Math I and II. If you are going to take one of them, take Math II, since you’ve clearly already learned pre-calc.

By the way, SAT’s aren’t everything. Grades matter too, and you seem to have that covered. Good luck! Hope this helps.

I agree. Just take Math II. Math I has a harsher curve and is less well-regarded by those top colleges.

Brutal honesty: at many schools below the top, SAT II scores are not even considered, and SATs are very important (if you’re looking for merit aid or something). However, at Ivies a great Math II score should substitute. So you’re in good shape.

Edit: I asked what was your Math ACT but I assume that’s what you meant by 33. I guess send that or not depending on the rest of it…

Much love my man. Thanks for the feedback and the advice.

2260 is good enough for many of those schools, focus on your other stuff
