Can a hook (or something of the likes) in your application (that could maybe set you apart from others) be something along the lines of having a disability and being motivated to do something great before the disability overtakes you as well as overcoming obstacles that mainly you had to face because of the disability?
That is not a hook. It would be a good essay topic.
Not a hook. A hook is a reason why a college would specifically want you above others with your profile. A hook is a recruited athlete, a legacy of a big donor etc. There will be many applicants who have overcome learning issues, physical disabilities, illnesses etc. I agree that your personal journey could be a good essay topic, but it is not a hook.
And I’d be careful about things like learning disabilities and mental health issues.
I just read soemthing from a Yale admissions officer where they said they are interested in someone who had to overcome something and still do as well as those who didn’t…but still you need to be doing very well.
