Can a non-business oriented student fit in?

I'm a hs senior looking at CMC. I liked the emphasis on discussion between people with different views, availability of research institutes, the ath, etc. But while I like a lot of things about it, I'm worried that I wouldn't fit in there as my goals seem to be much different than the prevailing attitude there. I'm interested in the environment, the middle east, education, and not so into economics. I want to work in public policy. I know that CMC graduates have one of the highest average salaries of any school, there are visiting corporations several times a week, and that students are very motivated by financial success. If that's not what I'm into, would I not fit in at CMC?

A large amount of students here have goals that lie in public policy. You will have absolutely no problem fitting in. Yes, there are quite a few people who are interested in economics and finance and would like to pursue careers in investment banking and consulting, I would say there are possibly an equal amount who want to do things related to public policy or government.

As a side not, you mention the middle east and the environment as some of your areas of interest. I always make sure to look through the upcoming speakers list at the Ath, and there are quite a few speakers who lecture on such topics.

I encourage you to read through this list of speakers for the current semester and you’ll realize that the vast majority of them speak on something other than economics. Students at CMC have a variety of interests and the speakers at the Ath reflect that.
