Can a NON-drinker survive at Cornell (or any University)?

What are the chances for a kid who choses not to drink at Cornell (due to multiple alcoholics in the family) can still have a decent college experience?

i'd say since Cornell students only really "go out" on friday and saturday nights, you'll have a much greater chance at having a decent college experience as opposed to some schools where a 7-day party is the norm.

Dont worry, there's hundreds of students who dont drink at Cornell, you certainly wont be alone.

There's one girl in my sorority who doesn't drink. No one pressures her into it and she still comes to most of our mixers.

One guy who I know is very cool, goes out a lot and parties, but, for whatever reason, never drinks. No one pressures him and he seems to have a good time. Actually, people love him because he's a permanant DD.

I dont drink too and I aspire to goto Cornell ;)

Sure, you just won't have any friends. Seriously though, alcohol is a choice (a good one to me, but that's besides the point), and I don't think people are going to hate you if you don't drink. As long as you're cool, you'll be fine.

Knew there was a catch!

I don't drink either. I'm sure you won't be alone.

I would suggest you search for postings by "Mini" on this topic ... I believe the quotes are that something like 25-30% of kids in college do not drink. Personally, I LOVED Cornell and had a ball there (many moons ago) while being essentially a non-drinker.

If you don't mind being around drunk people then it shouldn't be a problem.

I don't drink either; you're definately not alone.

Definitely not alone--I'm in the same boat.

i don't drink either

as long as you don't get on people's case about drinking, there's no reason why you wouldn't fit in
i'm talking about the general party scene, i don't actually have any cornell experience (yet :) :) )

Basically, you're choices would be:

-hang out with people who don't drink (I hate to say it, but 99% of these non-drinking groups, who go bowling and play Scrabble on Friday nights are considered extremely uncool)
-learn to deal with obnoxiously drunk people while you are sober without getting annoyed and without telling other people about the evils of alcohol
-sit alone in your dorm room

there are people that drink that do not drink so much that they are unpleasant to be around
i'm trying to say there is some middle ground between disgusting parties where one must be inebriated to have any fun whatsoever, and the sunday night bingo game

You can have fun at a party sober, I think...well, I've heard it's possible...I've never tried. Then again, most people around you are drunk, so it might be awkward when drunk guys are hitting on you, if you're a girl. It might not be so bad for a guy though.

Yeah, drunk guys hitting on me is totally not awkward

haha, I should have cleared that up. I mean easy drunk girls aren't awk for guys...oh boy.

Stop drinking and check yourself into a program, you drunk.
